Testing & Accommodations

The ADA provides protection for persons whose disability significantly limits one or more of life’s major functions.

Examples of the limitation of a major life function would include walking, breathing, hearing, etc.

Physical disabilities include paraplegia, quadriplegia, amputation or mobility impairments caused by such conditions as cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, arthritis, or injury.

Visual impairments range from slight visual loss to total blindness.  Only about 2% of the visually impaired population is totally blind.

Hearing impairments range from those where hearing can be improved by using hearing aids or specialized amplification devices, to those that require reliance on lip reading and sign language.

Learning disabilities affect the manner in which individuals take in information, retain it, and express the knowledge they possess.  Most common disabilities affect reading comprehension, spelling, mechanics of writing, math computation and/or problem solving.

Chronic conditions include epilepsy, diabetes, asthma, cancer and other chronic health disorders.

Other disabilities include diagnosed psychological disorders, chemical dependency conditions, acquired brain injuries, speech impairments and temporary conditions such as a broken bone.
