Objectives:
Opportunities are available in the following fields:
France--four to seven research awards, one award in French studies and one award in multidisciplinary studies in the following fields: any field; French studies (arts and humanities); and multidisciplinary studies.
Eligibility:
College or university level teaching experience is expected for most
awards. Foreign language proficiency is required as specified in the
award description or as required for the completion of the proposed
lecturing or research project. Professionals and artists outside academe
must have recognized professional standing and substantial professional
accomplishments. Previous grantees are eligible if three years will have
elapsed between the ending date of one scholar award and the beginning
date of the new scholar award (unless the previous grant was for less than
two months). Persons residing abroad for five or more consecutive years
in the six-year period preceding the date of application are
ineligible. Distinguished lecturing awards are targeted at those with
outstanding reputations in their fields, and a national standing is
normally required. Junior lecturing awards are targeted at recent
Ph.D. recipients and scholars at an early stage in their careers, or, in
some cases, where the doctorate is not required.

Objectives:
The sponsor supports women scholars doing advanced research in Greek and
French studies. In even-numbered years, the award is given for work in
French language and literature; in odd-numbered years, the award is given
for work in Greek language, literature, history, or archaeology. In 2002,
the award is for studies in French language and literature.
Eligibility:
Eligible applicants are unmarried women who are between the ages of
twenty-five and thirty-five. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or have
completed all of the requirements for the doctorate except the
dissertation. Eligibility is not restricted to members of Phi Beta
Kappa.

Objectives:
The sponsor provides support for U.S. teachers and school administrators
at elementary and secondary levels, community colleges and four-year
institutions to exchange positions with foreign educators. Participating
countries
include: Argentina; Benin; Brazil; Bulgaria; Canada; Chile; Colombia; Czech
Republic; Estonia; Finland; France; Germany; Hungary; Republic of
Ireland; Israel; Italy; Latvia; Mexico; Morocco; Norway; Peru; Poland; Romania; Senegal; Slovakia; South
Africa; Spain; Thailand; Turkey; the United Kingdom; and Zimbabwe.
Eligibility:
Teachers and school administrators at elementary and secondary levels,
two-year colleges and four-year institutions are eligible to
apply. Applicants must: be U.S. citizens; speak fluent English; hold at
least a Bachelor's degree; have a current full-time teaching or
administrative assignment in the U.S. or one of its territories; be in at
least the third year of full-time teaching or administration (teachers
applying to the seminar only need to be in their second full year); and
have not participated in a Fulbright Teacher Exchange longer than eight
weeks in the last three years. In addition to these general eligibility
requirements, the applicant must also meet country-specific subject and
level requirements.

Objectives:
Three awards for maintenance during research in France will be
given. French study in the areas of: art, economics, history, history of
science, linguistics, literature, and social sciences are appropriate
fields of study for these fellowships.
Eligibility:
Candidates must be in the final stage of the Ph.D. dissertation, or have
held the Ph.D. no more than six years prior to the application
deadline.

Objectives:
For over 50 years, the Fulbright Program has offered U.S. faculty,
professionals, teachers, and students the opportunity to conduct research,
teach, or study abroad and to make a major contribution to global
understanding. The program also brings foreign nationals to the United
States to study, teach, and pursue research. The Fulbright Scholar
Program, the senior scholar component of the Fulbright Program, offers
grants for college and university faculty, as well as for professionals
and independent scholars. Approximately one-quarter are for research and
three-quarters for lecturing, combined lecturing or
research, or seminar participation. Multicountry research is offered in
some regions. Award #2250 is for research. Grantees will conduct research
in any field of the humanities, social, or political sciences, and
collaborate with colleagues at French research centers and institutes of
higher education.
Eligibility:
Applications welcome from recent Ph.D.s as well
as from more established
scholars. The Franco-American Commission also encourages applicants from
the private sector. French language ability commensurate with the
requirements of the project is required. Applicants must meet all of the
following eligiblity requirements:
1. U.S. citizen at the time of application; status as a permanent resident
is not sufficient.
2. A Ph.D. or equivalent professional or terminal degree at the time of
application, unless otherwise stipulated in the award description.
3. College or university teaching experience is required at the level and
in the field of the proposedlecturing activity for lecturing and lecturing
or research awards, as specified in the award description.
4. Previous Fulbright scholar grantees are eligible to apply only if three
years will have elapsed between the ending date of one award and the
beginning date of the new award. This restriction does not apply to
short-term grants.
5. Persons residing abroad for five or more consecutive years in the
six-year period preceding the date of application are ineligible. Residing
abroad is defined as living outside the United States for nine months or
more during a calendar year.
6. Applicant must be in sound physical and mental health.
7. Prior conviction or current indictment for commission of a felony must
be reported. Prior conviction or current indictment may disqualify.

Objectives:
The foundation maintains its founder's art collection, library, and land
holdings at his former estate in France for the benefit of scholars and
creative artists who wish to pursue projects in the humanities and social
sciences related to French and francophone cultures. The foundation also
supports creative projects by visual artists, photographers, composers,
and writers. The foundation offers, at no cost, eleven furnished
apartments as well as a reference library, a darkroom, an atelier, and a
music composition studio. Fellows must be in residence at the foundation
and are expected to participate in the academic functions that take place
during the year. First-time applicants are normally given preference over
previous Camargo fellows.
Eligibility:
Applicants may be members of a university faculty working on a project
while on leave from their institution, teachers, graduate students writing
a thesis dissertation, writers, photographers, visual artists, and
composers. There is no French language requirement, but it is highly
recommended that fellows be as familiar with the language as
possible. Repeat applications are not considered sooner than three years
after the previous residence.

Objectives:
The general objective of the Institute is to support and encourage the
upgrading of English language programs in secondary schools in French and
Portugese-speaking African countries through enhancing participants'
management and organizational skills and broadening their understanding of
U.S. institutions and culture.

Eligible applicants are accredited post-secondary educational
institutions. Applicants should demonstrate a proven record (at least four
years) of experience in international exchange.

foster new ideas in education and encourage creativity. The sponsor
prefers to fund specific initiatives that conform to the mission

Objectives:
Humanities Focus Grants help schools, colleges, universities, libraries,
museums and other non-profit institutions improve formal humanities
education in the United States from kindergarten through college and
university. The grants provide educators with the opportunity to consider
significant humanities topics and to map institutional directions for
teaching the humanities. Humanities Focus Grants are particularly
appropriate for first time applicants.
Projects may:
Projects should address a coherent sequence of topics and should provide participants with sufficient opportunity for reading, reflection, inquiry, and discussion. Applicants should provide a detailed list of texts and materials to be considered and should also show evidence of commitment from participating groups and individuals. Funds may be used to pay for guest scholars and visiting consultants, books and other materials, modest purchases of computer equipment directly relate to the project, logistical support, and release time for participants. Project participants should also be remunerated for their participation.
Applicants who have already received a related grant from the Division of Education Programs should demonstrate the effectiveness of their earlier work and describe how further support will enhance the value of their project.

Eligibility:
Any U.S., nonprofit, IRS tax-exempt organization or institution dedicated
to improving humanities education is eligible. When two or more
institutions or organizations collaborate on an application, one of them
must serve as the lead applicant and administer the project on behalf of
all the participating units. Grants are not awarded to individuals.
