Denmark--up to four awards for lecturing, combined lecturing/research or research in the following: American Business, Politics, and Communications (specializations sought are comparative U.S. and U.K. politics and economics, American business history, consumer culture, American politics and society, among others); American history (specializations sought are 19th- and 20th-century American cultural history, preferably with a focus on popular music, such as rock, jazz, blues, folk, country and soul) any field; and human rights and humanitarian law.
Finland--up to sixteen awards in the following fields: adult and continuing education (specializations sought are adult and continuing education, philosophy of adult education, qualitative research in education); American studies (specializations sought are cultural, urban, social studies, North American studies, early modern and modern American History); American studies: literature or cultural studies (specializations sought are American literature, cultural studies, American English); any field; art education (specializations sought are art criticism, contemporary art and the artistic learning process); police studies (specializations sought are police organization, leadership and management, police training, crime prevention strategies or community policing, other fields of law enforcement); public management of science and technology: health policy (specializations sought are science, technology and health information policy; technology transfer; program and policy evaluation; health policy management; science and technology privatization in the health care and information industries); small business marketing, international and e-business (specializations sought are small business marketing, internationalization and networking, e-business); veterinary science (specializations sought are veterinary anesthesiology and intensive care (small animal and equine)).
Germany--approximately forty-nine lecturing/research awards in the following fields: American literature and American studies; any field (preference for social sciences and humanities, economics, environmental sciences, law, communications and media science); any field (preference for scholars in social sciences and humanities, especially American and African American studies, economics, environmental sciences, law, communications and media science); and beginning professional journalism (specializations sought are print and broadcast journalism).
Eligibility:
College or university level teaching experience is expected for most
awards. Foreign language proficiency is required as specified in the award
description or as required for the completion of the proposed lecturing or
research project. Professionals and artists outside academe must have
recognized professional standing and substantial professional
accomplishments. Previous grantees are eligible if three years will have
elapsed between the ending date of one scholar award and the beginning
date of the new scholar award (unless the previous grant was for less than
two months). Persons residing abroad for five or more consecutive years in
the six-year period preceding the date of application are
ineligible. Distinguished lecturing awards are targeted at those with
outstanding reputations in their fields, and a national standing is
normally required. Junior lecturing awards are targeted at recent
Ph.D. recipients and scholars at an early stage in their careers, or, in
some cases, where the doctorate is not required

Objectives:
The sponsor provides support for U.S. teachers and school administrators
at elementary and secondary levels, community colleges and four-year
institutions to exchange positions with foreign educators. Participating
countries
include: Argentina; Benin; Brazil; Bulgaria; Canada; Chile; Colombia; Czech
Republic; Estonia; Finland; France; Germany; Hungary; Republic of
Ireland; Israel; Italy; Latvia; Mexico; Morocco; Norway; Peru; Poland; Romania; Senegal; Slovakia; South
Africa; Spain; Thailand; Turkey; the United Kingdom; and Zimbabwe.
Eligibility:
Teachers and school administrators at elementary and secondary levels,
two-year colleges and four-year institutions are eligible to
apply. Applicants must: be U.S. citizens; speak fluent English; hold at
least a Bachelor's degree; have a current full-time teaching or
administrative assignment in the U.S. or one of its territories; be in at
least the third year of full-time teaching or administration (teachers
applying to the seminar only need to be in their second full year); and
have not participated in a Fulbright Teacher Exchange longer than eight
weeks in the last three years. In addition to these general eligibility
requirements, the applicant must also meet country-specific subject and
level requirements.

Objectives:
The "Informationsaufenthalt" is intended to increase knowledge of and
familiarity with specific academic, scientific or cultural subjects and/or
institutions in Germany.
Eligibility:
The following requirements apply: the group should consist of between ten
to fifteen students who must be affiliated with an accredited Canadian or
US university (participants may be drawn from more than one
institution); Canadian or United States citizenship is a prerequisite; and
while fluency in German is not a requirement, some knowledge of German on
the part of most participants is highly desirable. Preference will be
given to groups with a homogeneous academic background. Information visits
should not be planned for the July/August interval, when no classes are
held on German campuses, or the end-of-year holiday period 22 December to
8 January.

Objectives:
The Newberry's collections concern the civilizations
of western Europe and the Americas from the late middle ages to the
twentieth century. Included are materials on the history of cartography,
history and the theory of music, history of printing and early philology
and linguistics. Other focuses include European discovery, exploration,
and the settlement of the Americas, the American West, local history,
family history and genealogy, literature and history of the Midwestm
especially the Chicago Renaissance, Native American histories and
literatures, the Renaissance, the French Revolutionary Era and Portugese
and Brazillian history.
Eligibility:
Eligible Applicants are those holding a Ph.D. or
equivalent, doctoral candidates at the dissertation stage, and established
scholars.

Objectives:
The sponser provides support for in-residence
postdoctoral research projects at the Minda de Gunzburg Center for
European Studies, Harvard University. Projects should have topics in the
fields of European history, politics, economics, society or
culture. Preference will be given to projects that involve Germany.

Applicants must be officially postdoctoral by
July 1, 2003.

Objectives:
The program is designed to encourage research and promote study of
cultural, political, historical, economic and social aspects of modern and
contemporary German affairs from and inter- and multidisciplinary
perspective. Grants are restricted to the German Studies field. Funds may
be used for research in connection with doctoral dissertations and
postdoctoral studies expected to yield a scholarly essay or book.
Eligibility:
Ph.D. candidates, recent Ph.D.s and junior faculty members currently
affiliated with an accredited institution of higher education are invited
to apply. Applicants must be citizens of the U.S. or Canada, or they must
have been permanent residents of these countries for at least five
years.

Deadline:Deadline dates for applications will vary dependent on the
country of origin. Applicants should contact the sponser for further
details.
Objectives:
The sponser offers this award to foreign academics for a study or research
stay in Germany. Visits can last between one and three months and can be
made at any time. The award covers a monthly allowance based on the
academic status of the applicant (EUR 1,840 or EUR 1,990 or in
exceptional cases EUR 2,240). Travel expenses will be reimbursed for
some countries or lump sum payments will be made. Additional funding
is not available for accompanying family members.
Eligibility:
Invitations for study can be extended for academics working at higher
education institutions or research institutes. Artists and musicians
working at the HEI's are also eligible for invitation. Applications may be
placed either by the foreign academics of by German higher education or
research institutions, or by German foreign diplomatic representations or
by the sponser.
