UMM Procedure for Processing Regents'
Scholarship Applications
The Regents' Scholarship Program provides tuition for University of Minnesota courses for eligible Civil Service
or bargaining unit staff. An explanation of the eligibility, benefit and procedure is included with the Regents'
Scholarship Application.
Following is the UMM procedure for granting Regents' Scholarships:
- The applicant will complete the Regents' Scholarship Application available at this
website: http://www1.umn.edu/ohr/eb/uplan/tuition.htm.
- The applicant will submit the completed Regents' Scholarship Application to their supervisor for approval of the
course. The applicant and the supervisor will discuss the time commitment required for the course, specificallly
whether the course commitments will conflict with the designated work schedule. A department may restrict courses
taken during work hours.
- The applicant, the applicant's supervisor, and the department head (or designee) must sign the application. (All
three signatures are required.) Persons on the layoff list must have signature approval from the Career Transition
Program, UMTC Office of Human Resources.
- The applicant will submit the approved Regents' Scholarship application to the Cashier in the Business Office and
receive credit for the course.
- The applicant will register for the course. Note that Day, Extension and Independent Study registrations are
separate offices, and each requires a separate Regents' Scholarship application. Registration information is available
in the appropriate class schedule or bulletin. The rules/procedures described in these publications for students also
apply to staff.
Please note:
- Regents' Scholarship cannot be used to obtain a refund if you have already registered and paid tuition.
- Regents' Scholarships will not be accepted by registration after the last day of class.
- Academic faculty and academic professional and administrative staff have a similar benefit: the Academic Tuition
Benefit Program. More information about this program is available at: http://www1.umn.edu/ohr/eb/uplan/tuition.htm.
