Fang Du
Assistant Director

Fang Du, originally from China, came to UMM in September 2003 as the Educational Coordinator of the Multi-Ethnic Student Program. She earned her Ph.D. in Higher Education Policy and Administration at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities.
Currently, as the Assistant Director, she is responsible for serving as academic advisor to first-year ethnic minority students and facilitating the transfer of advanced-year students to faculty advisors in cooperation with the Academic Advising Office. Along with her colleagues, she is responsible for planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating academic assistance and academic outreach for minority students.
She also coordinates the Multi-Ethnic Mentorship Program, which connects second-year students of color with faculty and/or staff to work on a year-long project. Students receive a modest monetary stipend and must present their work at the end of the year. In addition to the above-mentioned duties, she is responsible for the coordination and evaluation of the Gateway, a four-week transitional program for incoming students of color. Recently, she assumed the responsibility of being the administrative coordinator of the Global Issues Honors Consortium, a program that prepares students of color to be future activists and leaders on global issues.
