World Touch Cultural Heritage Week
World Touch Cultural Heritage Week (WTCHW) is a week-long series of events, initiated to celebrate the diversity of the four ethnic minority groups, both at the University of Minnesota , Morris, and throughout the country. These groups include African American, American Indian, Asian American and Latino/Hispanic American. The WTCHW theme is traditionally based on the cultural theme for the United Nations for that particular year or decade.
Past World Touch Cultural Heritage Week speakers have included educator and activist Todd Yeary; alumnus and story teller Matthew Uses Knife; diversity consultant, Hmong storyteller, comedian, and rap artist Tou Ger Xiong; film director Chris Eyre; award winning author and poet Chitra Divakaruni; author Christina Garcia; social critic and political speaker Timothy Wise; and Olympic gold medalist Billy Mills. Other diversity-related events include multicultural dance and theatre performances, recognition of graduating senior students of color at the annual Invitational Ethnic Dinner, and the annual Circle of National Indian Association Powwow and 3K Peace Run.
