Maintenance & Operations
The Heating Plant is located on second street east of the Physical Education Center and Regional Fitness Center.
It is the home to all the boilers, HVAC units. This unit of Plant Services provides and maintains electrical, plumbing, heating & cooling for the entire campus. |

Preventive Maintenance
Facilities Management preventive maintenance responsibilities include those mandated by government regulations, insurance requirements and building codes. Many of these, such as fire alarm testing, are designed to ensure the safety of building occupants. To prevent emergencies and equipment breakdown, Plant Services conducts ongoing preventive maintenance on equipment located in supported space. Customers in nonsupported space receive preventive maintenance services on a chargeable basis. Preventive measures include inspections, testing, lubrications, cleaning and filter and belt changes. |

The first large scale wind research turbine at a US public university began generating power. Located at WCROC, the renewable energy trubine is expected to produce 5.6 million kilowatt hours of power each year for use at the UMM campus. Presently, the turbine services about 60% of UMM's annual electrical use. |

BioMass Cooling Chart |
BIOMASS DISTRICT HEATING & COOLING SYSTEM In April 2005 the MN Legislature approved a bonding bill that allocated six million dollars to construct a biomass gasification demonstration and research faciltity at the UMM. This plant scale project would provide up to 80 percent of the campus heating and cooling needs.
