It currently costs the University $1140 per month for waste diposal before the contractor ever sets foot on campus. Once the waste is picked up it is weighed and we are charged an additional $236 per ton. When all charges have been compiled the University ends up paying approximately $275 per ton. On all items that are recycled we avoid those charges and realize income from aluminum, corrugated cardboard and office ledger. This is enough income to (with the help of financial aid) employ 2 to 4 students without costing the University any money. There are also enviromental gains as well.
