Plastic Recycling

Plastic is moved to the recycle shed where it is bailed and hauled to Quality Check Plastics. To save time please remove caps from plastic bottles before recycling, caps have to be removed before bailing.

What kinds of plastic are recyclable?

Plastics are classified by the type resin used in its composition.

Most plastics have a symbol like those pictured above. The number in the center denotes the type of resin along with the letters under the symbol. Numbers 1 through 7 are used, and numbers 1 and 2 are recyclable here at UMM.

What kinds of plastic are not recyclable?

Plastics with the number 6 are not recyclable (number 6 is polystyrene, i.e. foam coffee cups).
