What is Course Guide?
Course Guide is a tool that provides students and advisors with course details such as instructional method, workload, and exams. The Course Guide process consists of instructor self service web pages which capture style, workload, evaluation methods, course description, and exam information.
Benefits for Instructors:
- Provides instructors with an easy and convenient way to communicate information about their classes to students who are deciding what courses to take.
- Allows instructors to promote courses to encourage enrollment.
- To give a more complete picture of the class, instructors will be able to include any of the following information in Course Guide:
- A course description
- A break-down of the format of the class and the work expected from students
- A syllabus (or syllabi, if there is more than one instructor)
- Instructor photo(s)
- Instructor biography (or biographies)
- Video clip that will provide a brief introduction to the instructor’s teaching practices and personality
- The online form is similar to the Final Grades entry process, so instructors will already be familiar with the basics of the system.
Benefits for Students and Advisors:
- Ability to view detailed course description—plus objects such as instructor photos, syllabi, biographies—BEFORE registration.
- With more information available to them, students can:
- Make better course choices
- Expand their "universe" of course choices
- Students and their advisors can access course information from one centralized location, rather than from multiple departmental Web sites.
- The information will give advisors another important tool as they advise students to take the classes that are most appropriate to their goals. Because of this, instructors are encouraged to use the Course Guide.
