Make Yourself at Home at UMM

Hall governments are formed in the residence halls to generate ideas for hall activities, services, facilities, and guidelines for an effective community.

Hall Facilities

All halls have floor lounges equipped with furniture for study and recreation as well as kitchenette-utility areas. There is a separate recreation area with pool tables and vending machines. Coin-operated washers and dryers are also available in each hall.

Each residence hall room and apartment is wired for telephone service including voicemail. One courtesy telephone for local service only is provided in a central location in each residence hall. Voice mail instructions are available during check-in or from the Physical Plant Office, 9 Camden Hall. There are three pay phones on campus at the following locations: Student Center, Regional Fitness Center, Humanities Fine Arts Building.

Students who own computers may sign up for direct network access in their rooms. The procedure for connecting to the network from your residence hall is described on the Computing Services website. For students who don't own computers, the University of Minnesota Bookstore makes several brands available for purchase at special educational discounts.

All residence halls have a television provided in the main lounge. Cable television service to individual residence hall rooms is available and includes 40-50 basic channels and HBO.

Room furnishings for double rooms include twin-size bed frames, mattresses measuring 36" x 80" (twin long), mattress pads, drapes, desks, desk chairs and a dresser. In some rooms, some items are built in. Dishware, flatware, kitchen utensils and cookware are not provided in residence hall kitchens. Linen, blankets, pillows and bath towels are not included in the on-campus University apartments or the residence halls.
