Policies for Class Scheduling
The campus intends to maximize the use of all spaces. A benchmark for campus classroom standards is 32 hours per week at 65% station occupancy.
Academic courses have priority in the space required to support academic instruction. No long-term non-instructional commitments can be made using academic instructional space. Class registrations and course scheduling must be complete before any non-academic schedules will be considered.
Requests for instructional scheduling are coordinated through
Jeri Mullin in the Registrar's Office.Divisions submit their course offerings to the Registrars office. The Registrars office may with consultation adjust proposed schedules for better time distribution to respond to student demand, and classroom utilization goals. The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs may be consulted on such adjustments.
Room adjustments may be required during the first week of classes. Instructors may be asked to shift rooms to accommodate other instructional space needs or to comply with disability accommodation requirements. The Academic Assistance Center will work with the Registrars Office to identify the accommodation needs of students with disabilities.
Courses with published maximums that have increased the class size beyond the room capacity will require consultation with the Registrars Office.
The Division is responsible to communicate any changes in room usage to the Registrars Office. These changes may be communicated to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs if conflicts arise.
Hours of classroom time should be scheduled so that no more than 60% of the scheduled hours are between 9am and 2:05pm.
When courses are added after room assignments are made, they will be assigned to the most practical times and spaces still available by the Registrars Office.
Course offerings should be distributed across the day and week to achieve the maximum utilization possible.
Policies for Classroom Requests
Requests for non-credit use (i.e. meetings, study sessions) of general-purpose classrooms during the day, evening, and weekend hours should be directed to
Jeri Mullin in the Registrar's Office. The following guidelines apply to the use of space for non-credit purposes:
Requests are usually confirmed the day it is submitted. However, if you do not receive confirmation within 48 hours, please contact Jeri Mullin at ext. 6033 or Clare Strand at ext. 6026.
No future academic space (general and special academic classrooms) will be assigned until the next year's academic schedule is complete.
It is the requester's responsibility to notify Media Services and/or Plant Services for special set-ups and to be sure the room is not locked.
Special purpose rooms (i.e. labs, studios, music practice rooms), conference rooms, and the Student Center are departmentally controlled. You must contact the Division Office or
Student Activities to schedule those spaces. The Chancellor's Office reserves the Behmler Conference Room. The following information is required when reserving a classroom:
