Position Description:
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Center for Small Towns and the Office of Community Engagement is participating in an AmeriCorps program called Students in Service. This is a part-time AmeriCorps program that offers scholarships to college students who participate in community service. Clean up the River Environment (CURE) is one of the project sites that the Center for Small Towns will be overseeing. CURE is looking for two students to assist CST in evaluation work and CURE in the implementation of the Friendship Tour Training Project activities. A project designed to foster friendly relationships between upstreamers in the Minnesota River watershed with down streamers from the Mississippi River and Lake Pepin area has received the most votes in a statewide on-line contest to promote collaboration. Travel to Montevideo is required. These positions will start in Spring 10 hours a week and continue 40 hours a week for 10 weeks of the summer
PAY RATE/HOURS
Two $500 stipends will be to the student from the University. At the end of the Service term (the completion of 300 hours) the student will receive a $1132 educational award that will go to their student accounts from AmeriCorps. At the end of the 300 hours there would be opportunity to continue on for the remainder of the summer as a paid employee.
DURATION
10 hours a week Spring semester and 40 hours a week during the summer
ELIGIBILITY
Full time UMM student work-study or non work-study eligible
Must be a US Citizen to participate in an AmeriCorps program

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Writing PR materials
Development of marketing materials
Communication among multiple campus and community groups
Document design
Research skills
Collecting and documenting various forms of data
Assist with the implementation of research
SKILLS NEEDED
Highly motivated and well organized
Excellent interpersonal communications and writing skills
Strong project management skills
Fluent with word processing, spread sheets, and internet/email
Must have data base knowledge/experience
Interest in water quality/environmental issues
Understanding of rural MN and farming is helpful
Willing to travel
