Position Description:

Intern needed to assist The Minnesota Project on a farm energy efficiency improvement initiative. The Minnesota Project will be working with the poultry industry to determine the challenges and benefits of implementing energy efficient lighting improvements to traditional poultry production facilities. The intern will assist The Minnesota Project with measuring and monitoring the effectiveness of the efficiency improvements over the course of a nine month time period. School credit available.

Major Responsibilities

Assist in the design of data collection and reporting protocols for lighting systems. Project will monitor:
• Pre and post efficiency implementation light levels.
• Pre and post efficiency implementation light energy usage levels.
Visit farms to assess baseline lighting systems and operational performance.
Track energy usage and production performance of lighting systems.
Catalog and report results in useful format.
Outreach and education based on project progress and results.

Working Conditions

The Minnesota Project is based in St. Paul, MN with project work located throughout the State of Minnesota. Work from a remote location may be negotiable.

Work load is expected to vary with flexible working hours and average between 5-15 hours per week. Hour requirement will vary based on stages of project implementation and relative work load.


Qualifications/Additional Comments:

Must be working towards/completed Animal/Poultry Science, Engineering, Energy Systems, or related degree.
Demonstrated interest in agriculture and/or sustainable energy systems.
Ability to work with agricultural producers and related professionals.
Strong reading, writing, computer, math, communication and analytical skills.
Must have driver’s license and own transportation.
