Position Description:
Morris Area School District is a multi-project VISTA project designed to improve education outcomes in the Morris Area School through after school and service learning programs. The Morris Area ZONE program provides one-on-one after school tutoring for children to improve their academic and social skills. We currently tutor 100 elementary students a week. Morris Area Service Learning Program currently provides service learning opportunities for 1,000 students’ grades pre-k through 12. Within these programs we provide opportunities for our students to improve on their core curricular academics, experience academic enrichment projects, and create an awareness of civic responsibility and deeper academic challenges within a classroom setting. Our VISTA will gain experience in recruiting and training volunteers, developing curriculum to develop literacy skills, gain real world experience in using social media to promote our programs, and have an opportunity to positively impact the lives of Morris Area Students grades pre-k through 12.
Member Duties : The VISTA will: 1) create and implement a volunteer recruitment plan for the ZONE after school program 2) research, update, and maintain social media that promotes our programs 3) assist service learning coordinator with the implementation of current and newly developing literacy programs 4) and have the opportunity to develop a multi-aged literacy curriculum within the ZONE after school program
