Transfer of an old computer to a recently purchased computer.
In the case that you’re receiving a recently purchased computer that has never been used by another user, please follow these steps:
- Schedule a time with the Help Desk to assist in the transfer.
- The Help Desk assists user in transferring data from old computer to new computer.
- The Help Desk will transfer:
- files stored in the My Documents (for Windows users) or Documents (for Mac users);
- data stored elsewhere on the computer is the responsibility of the user. Please move this data to one of these folders or migrate the data on your own.
- Firefox and Internet Explorer Bookmarks
- If you have bookmarks in other browsers you will need to migrate those yourself or identify those to the Help Desk prior to the transfer session.
- To assist the Help Desk in this migration please identify the following:
- printer setups needed;
- The Help Desk will deliver the old computer to Computing Services for secure deletion and reallocation.
- files stored in the My Documents (for Windows users) or Documents (for Mac users);
- The Help Desk will transfer:
Transfer of an old computer to a new “used” computer
In the case that you’re receiving a computer that was previously owned by another user, please follow these steps:
- The used computer and a computer submission form is delivered to Computing Services for secure deletion and reallocation. The computer will not be accepted without the computer submission form.
- Schedule a time with the Help Desk to assist in the transfer.
- Help desk assists user in transferring data from old computer to new computer.
- The Help Desk will transfer:
- files stored in the My Documents (for Windows users) or Documents (for Mac users);
- data stored elsewhere on the computer is the responsibility of the user. Please move this data to one of these folders or migrate the data on your own.
