"The best choice, for each individual, is the highest it is possible for him to achieve." -Aristotle

Welcome to the Greek Discipline at UMM. The art, literature, and intellectual traditions of the classical world remain basic to Western civilization. Pursuing the Greek program at UMM will allow you to encounter the classical world through the many fine texts written, the physical evidence of art and archaeology, and the study of the Greek language itself.

Greek courses offer both linguistic training and the experience of reading the major works of Greek literature, drama, history and philosophy in the original languages. The languages are also an essential tool for postgraduate work in Classics, if you choose to pursue a Masters or PhD in the future.

UMM's Greek discipline is pleased to bring the campus its honored Classical Lecture Series, which attracts speakers from throughout the country. Details on this lecture series can be found at http://www.morris.umn.edu/greek/lecture/

Each Fall the Greek discipline stages a Classical Festival, a cultural extravaganza and feast that includes the production of 10 Greek or Roman plays in translation. It also provides a valuable time to network with your professors, fellow students, and admissions counselors from graduate programs across the nation. This event also marks the beginning of the National Greek Triathalon. Our students frequently place in the top three in the Nation.

78% of our majors study abroad during their career at UMM. The most popular study abroad opportunity for Greek majors is the Parthenon Program, which combines the study of art history, archeology, and language over the period of two months in Athens, Greece. Students who participate in the Parthenon Program gain valuable hands-on experience in the analyzation of artifacts and the application of the Greek language.
