UMM TREC tutors engage in language and literacy development activities with preschoolers in the Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) program at Morris Area Public Schools. Tutors read stories and participate in learning activities with infants and pre-schoolers at scheduled times Monday through Friday. The ECFE/School Readiness program is open to all Minnesota families with children between the ages of birth and kindergarten enrollment. It recognizes that families provide children’s first and most important learning environments and parents are children’s first and most significant teachers. ECFE is located in the Morris Area Elementary School at 153 South Columbia Avenue just a short walk from campus.

“This experience was amazing. I truly loved spending time at the TREC program. I read many books to the children, assisted in reading comprehension and strategies, writing skills, and computerized reading games. Reading and writing are two of the utmost skills every student should have in order to be successful academically and in life. To be able take the time out of my schedule to give back to my hometown community is something that I enjoy and will continue to do for years to come.”
