In its 39th year, the annual Ice Cream and Lollipops Children's Art Exhibit will be held Thursday and Friday, May 22 and 23, in the UMM Humanities Fine Arts Gallery. The event showcases artwork by local children from preschool to second grade.

University of Minnesota, Morris sophomore Kellcee Baker is the first ever UMM student to be selected as a Udall Scholar by the Morris K. Udall Foundation. She is one of 80 students from 64 colleges and universities selected this year.

The 45th annual Commencement ceremony at the University of Minnesota, Morris will culminate the UMM experience for over 350 seniors who will receive bachelor's degrees this year. Commencement will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 17, on the Campus Mall.

University of Minnesota, Morris senior John Hanson of Falcon Heights is the first UMM student to receive a scholarship from the Killam Fellowships Program. Hanson will be recognized, along with other student award recipients, during the May 16 Student Honors and Awards event at UMM.

The University of Minnesota, Morris' leadership and commitment to renewable energy inspired the theme of the Sixth Annual Symposium on Small Towns: "The Power of Small: Building Solutions for Energy Self-Reliance." The Symposium will be held June 3-4 on the Morris campus.

Jazz in June will mark the first annual Summer Jazz Experience for high school musicians at the University of Minnesota, Morris. The three-day residential clinic, June 8-10, will feature UMM jazz musician mentors and international jazz greats, Chris Vadala and Allen Vizzutti.

Winona State University triumphed as the winner of the first National Campus Energy Challenge (NCEC). Following in second and third place, respectively, are St. John's University of Collegeville, Minn., and Swarthmore College of Pennsylvania. UMM hosted its own dorm-wide energy war.

The recent stamp of approval by Governor Tim Pawlenty to keep the Gateway Center Project at the University of Minnesota, Morris in the state's bonding bill is good news not only for the Morris campus, but for the entire region as well.

University of Minnesota, Morris sophomore Katie Laughlin has registered for her fall 2008 classes as the first ever environmental studies major at UMM. The foundation for an environmental studies major at UMM has been laid over the past several years and will be available for students who choose to attend UMM this fall.

Students who have participated in the 2007-08 Multi-Ethnic Mentorship Program presented the results of their work April 7. This year's MMP had 12 projects in the disciplines of art, biology, political science, economics, philosophy, computer science, French, environmental science and education.

Assistant Professor of Anthropology Julie Pelletier is this year's recipient of the UMM Alumni Association Teaching Award. Thanks to the generosity of the UMM Alumni Association, the Morris campus recognizes its outstanding professors through this annual award, created by the alumni in 1994.

Morse University of Minnesota Alumni Association Award for Outstanding Contributions to Undergraduate Education. Janet Schrunk Ericksen, associate professor of English, and Barry McQuarrie, associate professor of mathematics, have received the award.

University of Minnesota, Morris Chancellor Jacqueline Johnson announces that UMM has received three Clean Renewable Energy Bonds that will continue to move the Morris campus forward as a national leader in renewable energy systems and to meet the campus goal of becoming energy self-sufficient by 2010.
