Keeler

Keeler receives NSF grant

Associate Professor of Physics Matthew “Len” Keeler received a National Science Foundation grant of $130,000 to conduct an experimental investigation of the influence of background gas collisions on the classical orbits of Rydberg electrons. Read more.

Chancellor’s Advisory Council


The Chancellor’s Advisory Council (CAC) met on campus in October 2009. Comprised of alumni and friends, business and educational leaders, policy makers, media representatives, and campus community members, the CAC meets once per year on campus, working within the Morris governance structure, sharing expertise and bringing imaginations to bear on topics of strategic campus importance. The CAC helps shape efforts implementing the external relations aspects of the strategic plan, including marketing and institutional advancement.

Women’s golf wins conference championship


The women’s golf team won the 2009 Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) championship. Head women’s golf coach Jana Koehler ’00 received UMAC Coach of the Year honors. Read more about the 2009 men’s and women’s golf season and enjoy the photos and videos.

Festival of the Winds clinics and concerts


The Symphonic Winds will host the annual Festival of the Winds on Friday and Saturday, November 6 and 7, 2009. Visiting high school bands will attend clinics with a guest conductor. Concerts, open to the public, will be held both evenings at 7:30 p.m. in the Humanities Fine Arts Recital Hall. Read more.

Theatre discipline presents Antigone


The 2009–10 theatre season begins with an adaptation of Sophocles’ Greek tragedyAntigone. Written in response to the Nazi regime’s occupation of Paris, Antigone by Jean Anouilh runs Thursday through Saturday, November 5–7, 2009, on stage at the Humanities Fine Arts Proscenium Theatre. Read more.

Author Heid Erdrich to visit campus for poetry reading


Sponsored by the Briggs Library Associates, Heid E. Erdrich, author of The Mother’s Tongue, Fishing for Myth, and National Monuments, will visit campus for a poetry reading on Monday, November 16, 2009, at 7 p.m. in Oyate Hall. Read more.

Carol Concert tickets on sale


“A Charlie Brown Christmas” is the theme of the 32nd annual Carol Concert, a Morris campus holiday tradition. Performances are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, December 5 and 6, 2009, at 7:30 p.m. in the Morris Area Schools Concert Hall. For ticket information, contact the music office at 320-589-6234.

Visit the new 2010 Celebration Web site to learn about the history of the Morris campus and reminisce with those who share your campus history! Check back frequently for new content as the campus prepares to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the University of Minnesota, Morris founding and the 100th anniversary of the West Central School of Agriculture and Experiment Station founding.

UMMAA hosts Sophomore Movie Night


The University of Minnesota, Morris Alumni Association (UMMAA) begins a new tradition on Thursday, November 19, 2009, with a Sophomore Movie Night at the historic Morris Theater. Along with the Ice Cream Social for first-year students held during Orientation, the program introduces current students to the UMMAA and the resources and services it provides. Midwinter event scheduled—save the date!
