Dr. Michael Armacost will serve as the 2010 Jooinn Lee Lecturer. Armacost, former undersecretary of state for political affairs, ambassador to Japan and the Philippines, and Brookings Institution president, will speak on Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at 7 p.m. in Imholte Hall 109. His address, “Shifting Balance in Northeast Asia: Implications for the United States,” is free and open to the public. A reception follows. Read more »

Noted playwright, director, and actor Leigh Fondakowski to visit campus this week

McGinnis Room and Black Box Theatre

The Theatre and English Disciplines will host Leigh Fondakowski, playwright, director, and actor, on campus this week. Well known for her work with The Laramie Project, Fondakowski’s visit is sponsored by the Twin Cities campus through the Institute for Advanced Study Imagine Fund Guest Speaker series. The writing process will be the topic of Fondakowski’s talk on Thursday, April 8, 2010, from 2 until 3:30 p.m. in the McGinnis Room. She will visit the Fundamentals of Acting class on Friday, April 9, 2010, from 10:30 until 11:30 a.m. in the Black Box Theatre. Theatre and English majors and minors are particularly encouraged to attend. Read more »

The Asian Student Association (ASA) will auction items and sponsor a craft/garage sale for students, faculty, staff, and student groups to participate and sell items. The event continues in Louie’s Lower Level Tuesday through Thursday, April 13–15.

French Poetry Reading Contest a showcase for students

The Division of the Humanities French Discipline and the Entre Nous French Club student organization will host the 24th Annual Edith R. Farrell French Poetry Reading Contest on Tuesday, April 13, 2010, at 7 p.m. in Oyate Hall. The event provides a showcase for students to share the beauty of the French language. Campus invited to participate in Class of 2010’s BikeShare program

Morris mascot on bike

The Class of 2010 will instate the BikeShare program as its legacy. With this new program, students will have access to two-wheeled transportation. Seniors are gathering bikes that will be available for students to run errands, get to class, or even take a leisurely ride downtown or to local parks. After the student is done with the bike, he or she will return it to a campus bike rack. If you have a bike you are not using, consider donating it to the program. Read more »

Scholarships available for one-week renewable energy course for industry

The Morris campus and its partners will deliver a one-week renewable energy short course for industry. The course runs May 18, 20, 21, and June 2, 3, 2010. Read more »

Nominations and election of discipline student representatives

Nominations for discipline student representatives in the Division of Science and Mathematics are open from Monday, April 5 through Friday, April 9, 2010. Nominations should be turned in to Carol Ford in the Science and Math Division Office. Elections will be held on Wednesday, April 14, from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Accomplishments

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Thursday, April 1, 2010 for the new on-campus convenience store. A collaborative effort of the MCSA, Student Activities, Office of Residential Life, and Sodexo, the store provides a late night purchasing opportunity on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Rodney Fair ’09 will perform in the Minneapolis Musical Theatre production of Big River: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn opening in downtown Minneapolis on Friday, April 9. Read more »
