West Central School of Agriculture (WCSA) alumni and friends will gather on campus to celebrate their annual summer reunion this weekend. In addition to celebrating the 100th anniversary of the founding of the WCSA, special reunions will be held for the classes of 1945, 1947, 1950, 1955, and 1960. Alumni and staff will celebrate by dedicating the historic buildings plaque project, previewing the 2010 campus documentary, taking walking and bus tours, reminiscing, and more!

West Central Research and Outreach Center (WCROC) Horticultural Gardens
Stop by the Morris campus booth during the annual WCROC Horticulture Night. This annual event provides tours of the University of Minnesota's Horticultural Gardens. Activities include: discussions on various gardening topics, gardening demonstrations, games in the Children's Garden, a picnic dinner, and much more. Area businesses, nurseries, and gardening organizations will also be on hand to display their wares and services.

Truckers & Turnover Project research team hosts special guests on campus
The Truckers & Turnover Project research team hosted post-doctoral fellow Dr. Daniele Nosenzo the week of June 28, 2010. Nosenzo recently received his degree in economics with a focus on experimental work at the University of Nottingham, UK.
Also during the week of June 28, the research team hosted University of California, Berkeley doctoral candidate in economics, Mitch Hoffman, on his second visit to Morris. Hoffman is working on a paper using trucking data, which will be co-authored by one of the research team members. The paper will be used as part of his doctoral dissertation. While at Morris, Hoffman also worked with several University of Minnesota, Morris students.
On Tuesday, July 6, 2010, the research team hosted Dr. Russell Sana, executive director of the division of sleep medicine at the Harvard Medical School (HMS). The team is involved in a yearlong process of developing a major research grant proposal about medical conditions among truckers with the HMS.
Regional Fitness Center entrance detour
Due to the Second Street construction project, a new road has been built that stretches from Columbia Avenue, near the Morris Area Public Schools, to the Regional Fitness Center (RFC) parking lot. Read more »
Alumni Association Book Club announces July reading
The inaugural Morris Alumni and Friends book club has selected Mountains Beyond Mountains by Tracy Kidder for their July reading. Discussion questions will be posted online on July 26, 2010. New Student Registration: Thursday, August 5
Welcome to our new students registering for the Fall 2010 semester! Students will complete placement tests for languages and math and will meet with advisers to plan their first semester at Morris. Informational sessions will held for parents. This is a great opportunity to meet and welcome our newest campus community members. For more information contact Assistant Dean Jeff Ratliff-Crain.
International Student Orientation: August 11–22
University of Minnesota, Morris International Student Orientation (ISO) is held prior to New Student Orientation in order for international students to recover from travel, often from across the globe. International Student Orientation also offers sessions that address health and medical insurance issues, programs about cultural adaptation, weather adjustment, and liberal arts education, as well as informational sessions about U.S. systems that many international students are not familiar with or are very different from their home country.
Fall Faculty Development Retreat: Monday, August 16
All instructional faculty are invited to the annual fall retreat, sponsored by the Dean's Office and the Faculty Development Committee. The retreat sessions are designed to provide useful information to improve teaching, research efforts, and demonstrate the linkages between research activities and teaching. University of Minnesota, Morris alumna Hon. Lorie Gildea ’83 was sworn in as Minnesota Supreme Court chief justice Monday, July 12, 2010, at the Landmark Center, St. Paul. University of Minnesota, Morris student Gretchen Retka, Fort Ripley, Minnesota, sang the Star Spangled Banner at the opening of the ceremony. Chancellor Jacquie Johnson, Associate Vice Chancellor for External Relations Maddy Maxeiner, and Development Office Susan Schmidgall were all in attendance.(photo: Gretchen Retka and Hon. DigiQuilt software, designed by Kristin Kaster Lamberty, University of Minnesota, Morris assistant professor of computer science and a 2000 graduate, has been chosen as a finalist for the ACM Special Interest Group on Graphics and Interactive Techniques (SIGGRAPH) 2010 Learning Challenge sponsored by Disney Research.
