Driggs Lecture to Explore History of 'Illegal Alien'

Evelyn Hu-DeHart, professor of history and director of the Center for the Study of Race and Ethnicity in America at Brown University, will deliver the 2013 O. Truman Driggs Distinguished Lecture in History on Monday, September 16, at 7:30 p.m. in the Humanities Fine Arts Recital Hall.

Education News

ELEMENTARY EDUCATION MAJORS-There will be elementary education application/information meetings for students interested in entering the elementary education program on Wednesday, October 9, at 5 p.m. in Imholte Hall 111 and Thursday, October 24, at 5 p.m. in Imholte Hall 111. During the meeting, questions will be answered as to the pre-requisites required, when you should apply to the program, when you should begin the program, student teaching, graduation, etc. If you have already picked up your application packet, please bring it to the meeting. Further information about admission requirements may be found in the University of Minnesota, Morris catalog.

ATTENTION SECONDARY EDUCATION STUDENTS-There will be secondary education application/information meetings for students interested in entering the secondary education program on Monday, September 30, at 2:15 p.m. in Science 3550 and Thursday, October 31, at 2 p.m. in Science 3610. The meeting will provide information on recommendations, interviews, and deadlines for applying for admission to the program. Further information about admission requirements may be found in the University of Minnesota, Morris catalog.

The University of Minnesota, Morris has been honored as a College of Distinction for the 2013-2014 school year. The College of Distinction designation is given to select schools to honor their excellence in student-focused higher education. Morris is one of only 48 institutions included on the Public Colleges list and is the only Minnesota school recognized.

In the news

The Morris Sun Tribune reported on Morris's preliminary enrollment numbers last week. Projected enrollment for the 2013-2014 school year is 1,840 students. Official numbers will be determined after the tenth day of class.

Senior Perspective profiled work being done by Pete Wyckoff, associate professor of biology, and several students. Wyckoff is leading a multi-year project that explores the impacts of climate change and herbivory on tree population dynamics at the prairie-forest border.
