Tom McRoberts has been appointed as the director of Continuing Education and Regional Programs at UMM. McRoberts has held the joint positions of interim director of Continuing Education and Regional Programs and director of the Center for International Programs. He will continue as director of CIP through this academic year. McRoberts is a recipient of the University's Tate Award for Excellence in Advising. Most recently, he has overseen the reorganization of CERP and the reduction of its base budget as mandated by the Budget Task Force.

UMM has received a record number of student applicants for admission for its fall 2006 incoming class. This year's 885 applicants have already surpassed last year’s number at this time by 278, an increase of 46 percent. These are the most students who have applied to UMM in the last seven years. University of Minnesota President Robert Bruininks will deliver the State of the University address at UMM on Thursday, March 2, at 3 p.m. The speech will be broadcast live to the Coffman Theatre on the Twin Cities campus, in conjunction with the University Senate meeting.


Senior Cougar basketball forward Malinda Berglund set a new single game record with 42 points scored in the win over Martin Luther College on Saturday. The previous record was set by Cindy Lonneman (1982-83). Berglund also became only the 16th player in Cougar women's basketball history to reach the 1,000-point mark (1,015). Oil paintings, drawings and photography, the work of studio art alumnus Steven Leske is on exhibit at the Redwood Falls Public Library through March 17.

Secondary Education Program applicants planning to graduate in 2007: All material was to be submitted to Pat in the Education Division office by December 22. Remember to sign up NOW for your interview for the secondary education program. Interviews will be January 23 through 27. Sign up sheets are posted on the Education Division Office door (200).

Elementary or Secondary Education Program applicants: You must take the Pre-Professional Skills Test (PPST) before entering either the elementary or secondary education program. The next test is offered at UMM on March 4. Also, all education students MUST pass all three areas of the PPST before a Minnesota teaching license will be granted. Contact Counseling for information on registering now!

Elementary Education Program applicants planning to graduate in 2008: All application material is to be submitted to Pat in the Education Division office no later than Friday, Jan. 27. Interviews will be February 6 through 10. Sign-up sheets are posted on the Education Division Office door (211).
