Gary Donovan, Career Center director, served on the planning committee and helped host the 73rd National Conference of the American Association for Employment in Education and National Teacher Job Fair in Minneapolis October 29-November 1. A 34-year member of AAEE (formerly the Association for School, College, and University Staffing) Donovan led roundtable discussions for new professionals in Career Services. AAEE is the international professional association of school personnel administrators and college/university educational career services staff.
Ron Kubik, media services, LeAnn Dean, Rodney Briggs Library, and Chancellor Jacqueline Johnson are quoted in an article, “Treadway Makes Headway at the University of Minnesota, Morris,” in the current issue of Lavender. Twin Cities activist Leo Treadway’s donation of collected local and national GLBT magazines to the Library is the focus of the story.
Greg Thorson, political science, has been named to the Minnesota Rural Health Association’s Board of Directors. One of Thorson’s current research projects involves bringing together employers in the 12-county west central region to collectively pool their health care insurance risk. Thorson recently published a report titled, “The Search for Affordable Health Care in Minnesota: Prospects and Problems for Market-Based Solutions.” The report was co-authored with UMM graduates Neil Lindscheid and Tara Schmidt. The project is supported by the Center for Small Towns and the West Central Regional Sustainable Partnership.

[MPR 11/07/06] A story by Minnesota Public Radio reporter Tim Post on the topic of leadership burnout in small towns and featured an interview with Ben Winchester of the Center for Small Towns aired on Nov.7. The story also appeared on the MPR Web site.
[ACORE online 11/08/06] A story about UMM among those in the national higher education steering committee on renewable energy included Lowell Rasmussen, plant services, among the listed committee members.
[St. Paul Pioneer Press Literary Calendar 11/05/06] A reading event by Vicente Cabrera, Spanish, was included.
