Fall Faculty Retreat 2007
The 2007 Fall Faculty Retreat will be held on Monday, August 20, and the afternoon of Tuesday, August 21, at the Arrowwood Resort and Conference Center in Alexandria (see Arrowwood). Returning faculty members have the opportunity to share their summer experience, greet new additions to the faculty and welcome them into the UMM community. The theme for this fall is “Planning for the Future: Making it Happen.” The main three sessions will be “Planning”, “Learning and Teaching”, and “Making it Happen | Current Issues for Academic Year 2007-08”. Lowell Rasmussen, plant services, will be a speaker during Summer Center Day at the West Central Research and Outreach Center on July 13.
Chancellor Jacquie Johnson, Maddy Maxeiner, external relations, and Carla Riley, alumni relations and annual giving, traveled to Rapid City, S. D., to visit with alumni and friends of UMM over the weekend of June 2. In addition, they hosted UMM donors who attended the University's Heritage Society Annual Recognition Dinner held in the Twin Cities on June 13.
Timna Wyckoff, biology, led a Science Museum Professional Development Team during the Infectious Disease Summer Institute for secondary life science teachers June 25-29 at the Science Museum of Minnesota.
Blaine Hill ‘87 has been recommended to the Morris City Council by the search committee as the finalist for Morris city manager. Hill is currently clerk-treasurer for the City of Breckenridge. James Morales, admissions/financial aid, and Judy Riley, university relations, were among the 11-member search committee.
The Morris campus is mentioned in a story in the June 28 edition of the Mpls. Star Tribune regarding the U of M tuition banding change and how it affects the different campuses.
Several statewide media, including the West Central Tribune (Willmar), WCCO-TV, Mpls. Star Tribune, St. Paul Pioneer Press and AgriNews, as well as media beyond Minnesota, picked up the story about the Board of Regents approval of a biomass facility for the Morris campus.
A Summer Activities Bulletin Board has been completed that lists many of the area's special events and activities taking place this summer. The board is located directly across from the entrance to TMC in the Student Center.
