Over 200 attend annual Scholarship Jubilee
Over 200 scholarship donors, student recipients and family members attended the 2007 Scholarship Jubilee October 6. The event, hosted by the UMM Office of External Relations, is an annual celebration to honor UMM’s generous scholarship donors and talented scholarship recipients. Alex Carlson and Laurel Cutright spoke on behalf of student recipients, Susan Keskinen spoke on behalf of donors. Maddy Maxeiner, external relations, welcomed the attendees and Chancellor Jacqueline Johnson gave remarks.

U Board of Regents, President Bruininks at UMM this week
Meet and greet University of Minnesota President Robert Bruininks during a public Community Coffee from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 11 (tomorrow), at the Common Cup Coffeehouse. Morris Mayor Sheldon Giese will welcome the president on behalf of the Morris community. The Kiwanis Quad will entertain and “The Morris Movie” will be shown. The Morris area community will welcome the University Board of Regents and President Bruininks October 11-12. The regents will hold their October monthly meeting on the Morris campus. In addition to their meeting agenda, regents will meet UMM students, faculty and staff and tour the campus. Visit Regents.

Al Franken at UMM during college week tour
The Student DFL will host Al Franken at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, in the campus Science Auditorium. Franken, a DFL candidate for the U.S. Senate, scheduled a stop at UMM as part of his college week tour.

PZ Myers, biology, is mentioned in The Christian Post (10/8/07) and on Christian Newswire.com (10/4/07) in articles related to the movie, “Expelled.”

Ben Winchester, coordinator of data analysis and research, Center for Small Towns, is quoted in the Winona Daily News (10/8/07) in a story, “Small-town turnaround in Lanesboro: Bike trail led to economic boom.”
