Dr. Cheryl Contant named next UMM vc-academic affairs and dean
Dr. Cheryl K. Contant has been named as the next vice chancellor for academic affairs and dean at UMM following a national search. Pending approval by the University of Minnesota Board of Regents, Contant will assume her UMM responsibilities in the summer of 2008. Read more at News.

UMM achievements are part of Heritage Gallery exhibit
Two items representing the Morris campus will help to tell the story of University of Minnesota system-wide achievements during the Heritage Gallery exhibit in the McNamara Alumni Center, 200 Oak St. S.E., Minneapolis campus. A wind turbine model will represent UMMís commitment to renewable and sustainable energy a jazz ensembles logo patch will represent UMMís longstanding jazz program and Jazz Fest tradition. The exhibit will officially open on November 28.

Chancellorís Holiday Reception for faculty and staff
Chancellor Jacquie Johnson will host the Chancellorís Holiday Reception for faculty and staff from 2 to 4 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, in Oyate Hall. Faculty, staff and their families are invited to attend.


Retired Multi-Ethnic Student Program Director Bill Stewart and wife Ida were guests of honor at a Multi-Ethnic Student Program alumni gathering at W.A. Frost & Company in St. Paul on November 15. Dorothy Nins '94 helped to organize the event and in addressing the group, remarked that she owed much of her success as a student at UMM to Bill Stewart. Dorothy traveled from her home in Connecticut to attend this event. Sandy Olson-Loy, student affairs, brought greetings from Chancellor Jacquie Johnson and gave a campus and MSP update. Other UMM staff attending were Maddy Maxeiner, Carla Riley and Susan Schmidgall, all of external relations, Bonnie Tipcke, MSP office, and David Comer, Jr., admissions and coordinator for multi-ethnic student recruitment. Former MSP Director Rickey Hall also attended. Photos from the event can be seen at MSP event.

UMM alum Sal Monteagudo Ď99, Ben Winchester, Center for Small Towns (CST), and former CST and Continuing Education director Roger McCannon are among those who have been chosen as stewards to lead projects that will help Stevens County reach long-term and short-term community development goals. CORRECTION: Chancellor Jacqueline Johnson, student Jenny Wermerskirchen Ď08 and alumni Sue Dieter Ď86 and Paul Watzke Ď76 are also among those in this group with a UMM connection.

Mike Cihak, Media Services, has designed the cover for the December issue of the Pioneer Public Television Pioneer Preview Guide. The cover features UMM choirs and director Ken Hodgson.

Ten UMM and Regional Fitness Center representatives attended the 2007 College Health Summit sponsored by Boynton Health Services on November 15: Joe Saladino - Violence Prevention Program facilitator, Corey Phelps - Intramurals and Club Sports, athletics, Tammy Berberi - French, faculty adviser to UMM Disability Alliance, Corrine Larson - Health Services. Dr. Joan Goering - Health Services, Donna Bauck - Sodexho Campus Services, Henry Fulda - Student Life, Sandy Olson-Loy - Student Affairs, Tammy Salonen - RFC, and Cindy Perkins - Regional Fitness Center. Boynton Health Services will be at UMM on December 13 to present the UMM survey results.

Former UMM student Colleen Hennen is featured in a review of the Park Square Theatre play, Agnes of God.


UMM Alumni Association Guthrie Theatre gathering
The UMM Alumni Association will host a Guthrie Theatre gathering from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1. A reception will be held in rehearsal room three, main floor, preceding the 1 p.m. performance of ďA Christmas Carol.Ē For information, contact Alumni Relations and Annual Giving or (320) 589-6066.

Chancellorís Open Office Hours
The next Chancellor's Open Office Hour is Tuesday, Nov. 20, at 1 p.m. All members of the UMM campus community are welcome to drop in and chat with the Chancellor.
