Six musicians of the UMM Symphonic Winds were selected as members of the 2008 Intercollegiate Honor Band, hosted by the College Band Directors’ National Association. Students who will perform are Sara Friedrichs (alto saxophone), Jessica Henry (French horn), James Jarvie (trumpet), Brian Kotila (euphonium), Lisa Musielewicz (trumpet) and Joshua Nyquist (tuba). They will represent UMM in this highly competitive and prestigious ensemble featuring only the leading musicians from all the university music programs in Minnesota. The Intercollegiate Honor Band will rehearse with five selected guest conductors February 14-15, 2008, at the Minneapolis Hilton and then perform February 15, 2008, at the Minneapolis Convention Center as one of the capstone events of the Minnesota Music Educators’ Association Midwinter Conference.
UMM student reflections and photographs from an India study abroad program, taught by Pareena Lawrence, management and economics, are featured on the U of M Foundation Web site, Be The Vision.
Chancellor Jacquie Johnson and Maddy Maxeiner, external relations, attended the University of Minnesota Foundation's annual Presidents Club Holiday Party last Thursday evening, Dec. 6, at the McNamara Center. "Dessert and Dance" music was provided by the UMM Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Jim "Doc" Carlson and a UMM jazz combo provided entertainment during the buffet and reception.
UMM jazzers, under the direction of James “Doc” Carlson, will tour New Orleans during winter break. They will perform at the French Market at noon on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008, at Jack's Brewery at noon on Friday, Jan. 18, 2008, and at the Children's Museum at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008.

Service-learning video project to be shown
The students of Barbara Burke’s SPCH 3321 invite friends and members of the Kiwanis organization to join them for a "public" showing of their Service-Learning video projects. On Thursday, Dec. 13, at 4 p.m. the four video segments will be shown in TV Studio A, Humanities Fine Arts.
Elementary or secondary education program applicants
You must take Praxis I (Pre Professional Skills Test) before entering either the elementary or secondary education program. The test will be offered at UMM on January 12 and April 26. If you are an Elementary Education student planning to graduate in 2010 OR are a Secondary Education student planning to graduate in 2009 you MUST take this test no later than the January 12 test date to meet application deadlines. Also, all education students MUST complete all three areas of the PPST before entering the program. Contact Pat Nelson in the Education Division Office or Jane in the Counseling for information on registering.
Secondary education applicants planning to graduate in 2008
All of the application material is due to Pat Nelson in the Education Division office no later than Friday, Dec. 21, 2007. When you return in January, remember to sign up for your interview for the secondary education program. Interviews will be Monday, Jan. 28, through Thursday, Jan. 31. Sign up sheets will be on the Education Division Office door (200).
Elementary education applicants planning to graduate in 2010
All application material is to be submitted to Pat in the Education Division office no later than Friday, Feb. 1. Interviews will be February 11 through 15. Sign up sheets will be posted on the Education Division Office door (211) when you return in January.
