    Meiningens’ Play in a Day
    Saturday, Feb. 14, 10 p.m., Edson Auditorium. Students write, rehearse and perform 10-minute plays in 24 hours.

    Music students’ half recital
    Sunday, Feb. 15, 3 p.m., HFA Recital Hall. Pianists Daniel Kmetz and Molly Kvam will perform.

    Six-Ton Campaign
    Monday, Feb. 16, through Sunday, March 29, Student Center. Campus and local community to raise six tons of food through monetary and non-perishable donations.

    Financial Aid communicates via Weblog, Facebook
    The Financial Aid Office has added two new ways of communicating with students and their families. Weblog helps to publish important information via the Web. It also provides a way to give feedback via questions or comments. A University of Minnesota, Morris Financial Aid Group is now on Facebook. Check it out and become a fan today!     2009 Midwinter alumni gathering photos
    The UMM Alumni Association sponsored the annual Midwinter social gathering in Minneapolis at the W Hotel on February 5. More than 100 alumni from all eras gathered for good conversation, reminiscing and a chance to re-connect with old friends and new. Chancellor Jacquie Johnson also attended the event.     Attention Nontraditional Women and Men Students
    Applications for the Carol E. Macpherson Memorial Scholarship and the University of Minnesota Alumnae Scholarship are now available. You must be 28 years of age or older, returning after a five-year or longer break in education and admitted to or enrolled in a degree-granting program at any of the University of Minnesota campuses. Financial need is critical. Six to eight awards, ranging from $1,000 - $4,000 are awarded annually. Letters of recommendation are required. The Macpherson is open only to women the U of M Alumnae Scholarship is open to women and men. Stop by the Office of Continuing Education, 105 Blakely Hall, for an application or go to the Office for University Women Web site at and click on Macpherson/Alumnae Scholarships to bring up the application for downloading. Deadline is April 30, 2009.

    Edward and Patricia LaFave Scholarship
    The Edward and Patricia LaFave Scholarship will provide two scholarships in 2009-10 to students at the University of Minnesota, Morris. In accordance with the donors’ wishes, a plus factor will be given to female students who fit the college guidelines for “non-traditional age,” who have demonstrated financial need and who show academic promise. By establishing this fund, Patricia LaFave and the late Edward LaFave wished to support students who may not have been able to attend college right after high school or who have been away from college for several years. Two $1,200 scholarships are available for 2009-10. (Application deadline: Friday, March 13, 2009.) Application forms are available in the Office of Continuing Education, 105 Blakely Hall. The final selection is made by the Admissions and Financial Aid staff in consultation with Continuing Education, Regional Programs and Summer Session.

    An article by Rebecca Webb, computing services, about the Palmer House Hotel, originally published in Senior Perspective, is being reprinted in the Spring 2009 issue of the Sinclair Lewis Society Newsletter, published by the English department of Illinois State University-Normal.

    Barbara Burke’s (communication, media & rhetoric) article, "Media Literacy in the Digital Age: Implications for Scholars and Students," has been published both nationally and internationally in the Autumn 2008 issue of RCA Vestnik (the Journal of the Russian Communication Association/ Institute of Management, Business and Law). The article is available in both English and Russian. The English version can be accessed through the UMM library system (EBSCO - Communication and Mass Media Complete).

    Kristin Lamberty, computer science, is interviewed for the story, “Stevens FORWARD! -- ‘Virtual community’ through technology,” in the February 11, 2009, Morris Sun Tribune.

    Sandy Olson-Loy, student affairs, will be interviewed for an upcoming Leaders and Innovators feature in the national newsletter, Student Affairs Today. The feature profiles leaders and innovators in student affairs, focusing on advice, tips, solutions and insights related to the latest trends, changes and challenges in student affairs. KWLM (Willmar radio) reporter Paul Stagg talked to Olson-Loy last week about the Pride of the Prairie Community Foods Day.

    The Morris campus is mentioned in “Craving Corn and the Cob,” in the March 2009 Ethanol Producer Magazine and in the February 11 Bemidji Pioneer “Commentary: Aiding community-based wind farms.”

    Paula O’Loughlin, political science, was interviewed February 4 by the Minnesota Daily
    about the Minnesota senate race.
