West Central School of Agriculture Alumni All-School Reunion
Saturday, July 18, 9:30 a.m.–7 p.m.
A large turnout of WCSA alumni is expected on campus this Saturday, July 18, for the WCSA Annual All-School Reunion. Activities include a brunch, a bus tour of the campus and of the West Central Research and Outreach Center, and an annual meeting and program. The day's activities culminate with a dinner in Oyate Hall.
6th Annual University of Minnesota, Morris at the Saints Game
Wednesday, July 29, 4 p.m., Midway Stadium, St. Paul
The Morris campus community and their families are invited to join the Office of Admissions and the Office of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving for the annual "Morris at the Saints Event." Complimentary tailgating begins at 4 p.m. with prospective students and alumni. The St. Paul Saints will take on the Sioux Falls Canaries at 7:05 p.m. You and your families are invited to attend and may reserve up to four free tickets. Join us for an evening of fun! Stop by the Morris campus booth during the annual Horticulture Night. The Morris Healthy Eating program will also have a booth. Horticulture Night 2009 includes demonstrations and garden tours—including the raspberry high tunnel, annual flowers, tried-and-true perennial flowers—are planned. There will also be many hands-on family activities and food booths.
Stevens County Fair begins
Wednesday, August 12-16
The University of Minnesota, Morris will once again have a booth at the Stevens County Fair. We are looking for faculty, staff and alumni to volunteer their time at the booth. Brigg’s Library Announces EndNote Subscription
Briggs Library's announces its subscription to the bibliographic software EndNote.
The Library recently upgraded to version X3 for Windows. It's available for download from the Library's EndNote webpage at http://www.morris.umn.edu/library/endnote.php as well as being available in most campus computer labs. Gateway Program Closing Banquet, Friday, August 7
The 2009 Gateway Program—a four-week transition program, which includes a four-credit umbrella course covering the areas of mathematics, English, and computer science—will wrap up with a banquet in the Student Center (University and Cougar rooms) on Friday, August 7, 2009. Fall Faculty Retreat 2009
The annual Fall Faculty Retreat will be held at Arrowwood Resort & Conference Center, Alexandria. This year's retreat will focus on "Developing an Effective Intercultural Campus Community," a topic critical to our global and multi-ethnic initiatives and one intended to move beyond the theory to the practice of teaching, advising, and serving our students in preparation of their entry into a global and diverse world. Professor of Political Science Seung-Ho Joo was phone interviewed by the Lynn Rivers Show, WEMU (Public Radio from Eastern Michigan University), on June 12, 2009. He
discussed his new book North Korea's Foreign Policy under Kim Jong Il
and the current North Korean crisis. His co-edited book was recently published by
Ashgate Press (2009).
Professor of Political Science Paula O’Loughlin was the featured expert on Esme Murphy’s radio show on WCCO-AM on June 27, 2009. Professor O’Loughlin provided commentary on the political events of the week, Minnesota and national. On June 29, she was interviewed by the Red Wing Republican Eagle on the topic of DFL gubernatorial candidate Tim Bakk. She was also a guest on Metro Network and KWLM-AM “Live a 5” June 30. The topic of the interviews was Senator Franken. To listen to the KWLM-AM interview, scroll to “Live @ Five on Demand.” On July 1, O’Loughlin was interviewed by Wilmington, Delaware radio station WDEL-AM on the same topic.
