Jenna Benson ’07, chemistry, was on campus Tuesday, September 1, 2009 providing the year’s first bio-chemistry seminar: “Immunomodulatory effects of the popular medicinal herb, Echinacea purpurea.”
Benson, a toxicology graduate student at the University of Montana, also met with current students during her time on campus.

Students Interested In Entering the Elementary or Secondary Education Program
You must pass the Pre Professional Skills Test (PPST) [also known as PRAXIS I] BEFORE entering either the elementary or secondary education program. The PPST will be offered at the Morris campus on November 14. Contact Pat Nelson, Division of Education, or Jane Kill, Counseling, for information on registering.
ATTENTION Secondary Education Students Planning To Graduate In 2011
There will be an informational/application meeting for all secondary education students planning to graduate in 2011 on Thursday, September 24, at noon in Science 3610. The meeting will provide information on recommendations, interviews, and deadlines for applying for admission to the program. Further information about admission requirements may be found in the University of Minnesota, Morris Catalog.
ATTENTION Elementary Education Majors Planning To Graduate In 2012
There will be an informational/application meeting for all elementary education majors planning to graduate in 2012 on Wednesday, September 9, at 5 p.m. in Imholte Hall 111. During the meeting, questions will be answered as to the pre-requisites required when you should apply to the program when you should begin the program student teaching graduation, etc. If you have already picked up your application packet, please bring it with you to the meeting. Further information about admission requirements may be found in the University of Minnesota, Morris Catalog.

Carol Ford, Division of Science and Mathematics Principal Administrative Specialist, was featured in The Appleton Press, July 22, 2009 issue. She has written and published The Northlands Winter Greenhouse Manual. The book, which has been acquired for national distribution by Barnes and Noble and other retailers, was co-written by Chuck Waibel.
An interview with Professor of Education Gwen Rudney aired on the Minnesota News Network on Monday, August 31, 2009. Gwen was also the guest on KWLM-1340 AM radio’s “Live at 5” program, Monday, August 31, 2009. Both interviews were on the topic of preparing kids for going back to school.
Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Sandy Olson-Loy and USDA Soils Lab Research Leader Abdullah Jaradat discussed new crops and the growing local foods movement at the North Central Soil Conservation Research Lab’s 2009 Summer Field Day.
