    Join the fun during the sixth annual University of Minnesota, Morris Cougar Fest Saturday, September 19.     Rendón to speak on teaching and learning, wholeness and social justice

    Laura I. Rendón, professor and chair of the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies in the College of Human Sciences at Iowa State University, will speak at the University of Minnesota, Morris on Friday, September 18, 2009, at 1:30 p.m. in the Humanities Fine Arts Recital Hall. Rendón’s address, “Toward a Pedagogy of Wholeness, Social Justice, and Liberation,” is free and open to the public. A discussion follows.

    POSTPONED: Seasonal flu shot clinic available to University of Minnesota, Morris students
    THE SEASONAL FLU SHOTS ORIGINALLY SCHEDULED FOR SEPTEMBER 23 AND 24 HAVE BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL A LATER DATE.

    Interdisciplinary student team produces video for the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment
    Morris was one of six colleges chosen to produce a video for the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment (ACUPCC). The project was co-sponsored by Apple, Inc., a Gold level sponsor of the ACUPCC. The video will be used to encourage other colleges to join the higher education movement to reduce carbon emissions and reverse global climate change. Jacqueline Johnson, chancellor, is an ACUPCC charter signatory and member of the governing body steering committee. Campuses that sign the commitment develop short- and long-term plans to achieve carbon neutrality. Read more.

    Celebrate Constitution Day: participate in fourth annual “Constitutional Jeopardy”
    Test your constitutional knowledge during the fourth annual “Constitutional Jeopardy” on Thursday, September 17, sponsored by POL 1201—American Government and Politics. Spin for questions to test your knowledge and win! There are three opportunities to play: 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Food Service Building 2 p.m. on the Campus Mall 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. at Willie’s Super Valu.     Attention Secondary Education Students Planning to Graduate in 2011
    There will be an informational/application meeting for all secondary education students planning to graduate in 2011 on Thursday, September 24,
    at noon in Science 3610. The meeting will provide information on recommendations, interviews, and deadlines for applying for admission to the program. Further information about admission requirements may be found in the University of Minnesota, Morris Catalog.

    Accomplishments
    First-year student athlete Linda Keller selected UMAC Player of the Week for cross-country
    Linda Keller, Paynesville, ran a school record 22:06 en route to winning the women's 6k race at Crown College Invitational this past weekend. She was ahead of the nearest runner by one minute. Her school record is two minutes faster than the old one set by Katryna Zhdanovich in 2005. Congratulations, Linda!
