Basic Studio students created couture outfits from recycled, pre-purposed, and re-used materials and model them in a runway show in the Black Box Theatre. The evening features a preview of the costumes for the Theatre Discipline’s green production, As You Like It. For more information, contact Jess Larson.

Media Service’s Echoes of Cry of the Marsh to be aired on TPT for Earth Day
Twin Cities Public Television (TPT) will air Echoes of Cry of the Marsh in April 2010. TPT has a potential viewing audience of 1.7 million households. Read more »
Eco-Friendly Demonstration Neighborhood receives award
The Morris Eco-Friendly Demonstration Neighborhood master plan received an award from the Minnesota chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects awards. Jim Barbour, biomass facility scientist, David Fluegel, Center for Small Towns (CST) community program specialist, and Troy Goodnough, CST and campus sustainability coordinator, served on the planning committee. Rachel Olm ’09, Minneapolis, biology and environmental studies, and Tara Loomis ’09, Hutchinson, communications, media, and rhetoric, supported the project as CST project assistants. Read more »

Accomplishments
The paintings of Michael Eble, associate professor of studio art, are on exhibit at Gallery13 in Minneapolis. Terra Absentis: Louisiana’s Disappearing Landscape is a collaborative exhibit with photographer Daniel Kariko. Read more »
Sarah Buchanan, associate professor of French, was interviewed by a student college reporter from Taiwan who read the online story “French students help Haitian girls make new life in Minnesota.” The student is researching college students’ inspirations for becoming involved on campus and in communities.
Joshua Preston ’13, Montevideo, political science and economics, will attend the National Rural Youth Assembly (NRYA) in Santa Fe, New Mexico, on April 22–25, 2010. Selected from more than 450 applicants, Preston is one of fifty-three participants who will use the assembly to explore issues important to their communities. Read more »
David Aronson, Welcome Center renovation project manager, attended the Upper Midwest Association of Campuses for Sustainability conference. With Welcome Center architects, he presented on renovating a National Historic Registry 1915 building into a 21st century energy efficient office building built to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards. His presentation with Greg Ackerson of McKinstry was on using an energy service company to conduct a campus energy audit and implementing energy efficient changes and capital improvements.
Noted playwright, director, and actor Leigh Fondakowski visited campus last week. Well known for her work with The Laramie Project, she spoke about the writing process and visited the Fundamentals of Acting class. Enjoy the photos.
Congratulations to students Kelley Swanlund, Jen Miller, Ernest Tucker, Liz Grave, and Audrey Smebakken who won awards at the French Poetry Reading Contest held April 13, 2010. Enjoy the photos.
Morris was well represented at the joint meeting of the Minnesota Chapters of the American Institute of Professional Geologists (AIPG) and the Association of Women Geologists. Featured speaker Heather Anderson Arends ’96 spoke on “Minnesota aggregate resources and the DNR aggregate mapping program.” Beth Novak ’10 received the 2010 AIPG–Minnesota Section Student Scholarship given to the outstanding geology undergraduate.
