As You Like It, an eco-friendly production

Black Box Theatre
The Black Box Theatre will echo with the words of the great Bard of Avon as students perform As You Like It—with a “green” twist. Transformed “trash” has become the set, the costumes, and an artistic reflection of a campus committed to waste reduction, recycling, and energy self-sufficiency. As You Like It runs Thursday through Saturday, April 22–24, 2010, at 7:30 p.m. with a matinee performance on Saturday, April 24 at 2 p.m. Slideshows by Kari Adams, University Relations graphic artist, and Nic Mcphee, professor of computer science, respectively. Students to present research and creative work at Undergraduate Research Symposium
Opening ceremony, Friday, April 23, 2010, 1 p.m.
HFA Recital Hall
An Undergraduate Research Symposium opening ceremony begins with an Unusual Suspects performance at 1 p.m. in the HFA Recital Hall on Friday, April 23, 2010. Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Dean Cheryl Contant will give welcome remarks at 1:30 p.m., and A Prairie Cantata, composed by Mitch Grussing ’10, begins at 1:50 p.m. Oral presentations begin at 2:30 p.m. in Imholte Hall, and the poster session will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. in the Science Atrium. Siegfried W. de Rachewiltz, professor at Innsbruck University, Innsbruck, Austria, and director of the Schloß Tirol museum, will deliver the 2009–10 Barber Lecture, “Oswald von Wolkenstein, the last of the German Minnesänger,” at 7 p.m. Monday, April 26, 2010, in HFA Recital Hall. Gillies ’83: Love of soccer inspires career and gift to Morris
Friendships with fellow UMM students from other countries fueled Jeff Gillies’s initial interest in soccer. As director of youth soccer at the YMCA of Middle Tennessee in Brentwood, Tennessee, he now encourages thousands each year to learn and love the sport. A gift to the University of Minnesota, Morris reflects his passion. Read more »

Submit memories of Gooch online or by e-mail. Submit Ahern memories by e-mail or through campus mail to the Division of the Social Sciences Office no later than Monday, April 26, 2010.
Spring semester student employment payroll deadline
The last day to submit spring timesheets for student employment payroll is Friday, May 14, 2010. If timesheets are turned in after May 14, payment will not be processed through the student employment payroll. Students will need to deal directly with their employers to be paid from department funds. This may cause a delay in receiving a paycheck.
Spring semester student loans deadline
The last day to increase or apply for a direct subsidized or unsubsidized, SELF, or PLUS loan for spring semester is Friday, April 30, 2010.
May or summer session(s) financial aid deadline
The last day to apply for May or summer financial aid is Monday, June 7, 2010. To be eligible for May or summer financial aid, students must be enrolled for all summer classes by June 16, 2010.
Exit counseling for graduating seniors deadline
Graduating students who have borrowed from federal loan programs should complete exit counseling before the end of spring semester.

Minnesota Public Radio’s Marianne Combs reviewed the Gallery13 exhibit, “Terra Absentis: Louisiana's Disappearing Landscape”, featuring paintings by Michael Eble, associate professor of studio art, and photographs by Daniel Kariko.

Congratulations to the Fashion Trashion studio art and theatre students who modeled outfits created from recycled, re-purposed, and re-used materials in a Black Box Theatre runway show last week. Enjoy the slideshow by Natalie Johnson ’11.
