Page, associate professor of education, receives UMMAA Teaching Award
Michelle Page, associate professor of education, received the 2010 University of Minnesota, Morris Alumni Association Teaching Award. This honor recognizes Morris faculty for outstanding contributions to undergraduate education. Read more »
Eble, associate professor of studio art, chosen for Pine Needles summer residency
Michael Eble, associate professor of studio art, has been chosen by the St. Croix Watershed Research Station, Science Museum of Minnesota, as Artist at Pine Needles for summer 2010. This program provides residencies for natural history artists and writers at the research station’s Pine Needles cabin and offers interaction with environmental scientists and the local community. 2010 Universitywide Imagine Fund Award recipients announced
Seventeen University of Minnesota, Morris professors received Universitywide 2010 Imagine Fund Awards. The Imagine Fund program provides financial support for scholarly and creative projects and initiatives that benefit the University community and communities beyond. Read more »
Call for alumni artists
The Welcome Center Art Committee is reviewing artwork from alumni to purchase for permanent display in the Welcome Center. Alumni should contact Michael Eble, associate professor of art, for more information and portfolio review requirements. Deadline for consideration is Tuesday, June 15, 2010.
Spring semester student employment payroll deadline
The last day to submit spring timesheets for student employment payroll is Friday, May 14, 2010. If timesheets are turned in after May 14, payment will not be processed through the student employment payroll. Students will need to deal directly with their employers to be paid from department funds. This may cause a delay in receiving a paycheck.
May or summer session(s) financial aid deadline
The last day to apply for May or summer financial aid is Monday, June 7, 2010. To be eligible for May or summer financial aid, students must be enrolled for all summer classes by June 16, 2010.
Exit counseling for graduating seniors deadline
Graduating students who have borrowed from federal loan programs should complete exit counseling before the end of spring semester.
Accomplishments
Voice of America (VOA) interviewed Cyrus Bina, professor of economics, this week on the topic of Iran’s economy. The international broadcasting service, funded by the United States government through the Broadcasting Board of Governors, broadcasts to an estimated worldwide audience of 125 million people.
Each year, the Rodney Briggs Library chooses artwork from the Annual Juried Student Art Exhibit and the Annual Senior Studio Arts Student Exhibit for permanent display in the library. This year, the Briggs Library Art Committee chose the work of first-year student Leanne Larson, Garfield, and senior Yang Mee Moua, St. Paul. Read more »
Anne Dillon ’10, Minneapolis, gave an oral presentation, “Convergence and Stability of Matrices in Google’s PageRank Algorithm” at a regional Mathematical Association of America meeting in St. Paul in April 2010. Her work, partially supported by an Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program, was completed with faculty adviser Peh Ng, professor of mathematics. Ng reports, “Anne received numerous compliments on her presentation and on her work, the ‘best’ of which was said to me by a nationally renowned mathematician: ‘That was one of the best undergraduate presentations that I have ever seen UM-Morris must have great students!’ I was beaming with Cougar pride.”
A documentary created by alumnus Mark Schuller, Poto Mitan: Haitian Women Pillars of the Global Economy, was screened at the 2010 Minneapolis-St. Paul International Film Festival. The 1996 graduate presented this film last year on campus.
