The Symphonic Winds, under the direction of Martin H. Seggelke, assistant professor of music, presents its annual Festival of the Winds during the week of November 1, 2010. The festival promises a multitude of exciting events for participants and listeners alike, including a concert, conducting symposium, guest artists, master classes, solo recitals, and a concert with guest conductor Ricky Fleming, associate professor of music and director of bands at Buffalo State College. Yasmina Reza’s ART will be performed Wednesday through Saturday, November 3–6, at 7:30 p.m. with 2 p.m. matinees on Saturday and Sunday, November 6–7. Director Ray Schultz, associate professor of theatre, will guide two separate casts performing the same script in rotating repertory. Three music majors receive national award
Donovan Hanson ’11, Ada, Matthew Torgerson ’11, Clinton, and Alexandra Weber ’11, Milbank, South Dakota, all music majors, were honored by the Music Educators’ National Organization with its Professional Achievement Award. They have been involved in the leadership of the Morris chapter. Read more »

Students invited to submit research papers for publication
Students are invited to submit research papers for publication in the undergraduate research journal, Metamorphosis, a biannual journal of the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges. The journal publishes papers in the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and professional programs. A UMM review committee will select two papers for publication. Students may obtain a style sheet from the ACE Office and are encouraged to seek a faculty mentor. Papers should be submitted electronically as Word attachments to Paula O’Loughlin by Friday, November 5, 2010. Questions should be directed to O’Loughlin, ACE director, or Jim Togeas, Functions and Awards Committee chair.
Accomplishments
Bart Finzel, interim director of the Center for Small Towns, was interviewed by Ronald Wirtz, editor of the fedgazette, for the story “Small Talk: An Interview with Three Small-Town Advocates.”
Lowell Rasmussen, vice chancellor for facilities and finance, was interviewed by Edward Clark of the Sierra Club for a report on alternative energy and energy savings to be delivered to the Minnesota governor, legislature, and media in November 2010.
The 1975–78 Cougar football teams recently inducted into the Cougar Hall of Fame and their coach, Al Molde, were included in the story “These coaches might answer if University of Minnesota calls needing a replacement for football coach Tim Brewster” written by Charley Walters for the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
