Fiction writer and poet Chrissy Kolaya and poet Athena Kildegaard will present a works-in-progress reading on Wednesday, November 10, 2010, at 7:30 p.m. in the McGinnis Room. Kildegaard and Kolaya will read from new work made possible by a 2010 Artist Initiative Grants for literary arts from the Minnesota State Arts Board. Read more »

Employee Health and Benefit Fair and flu shot clinic for faculty and staff
Thursday, November 11, 2010, 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., flu shots from noon until 1 p.m.
Oyate Hall, Student Center
The Employee Health and Benefit Fair will be held on Thursday, November 11, 2010, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. in Oyate Hall. Representatives from various groups will answer questions, provide demonstrations, and give away door prizes. Free flu shots from noon until 1 p.m. Free Zumba class at noon. Free food.

Another gathering of Soup and Substance is scheduled for Tuesday, November 16, 2010, at 6 p.m. in the Moccasin Flower Room. Named for the pairing of a delicious meal with meaningful dialogue, the event is open to all members of the community to share experiences and perspectives. People with direct topic experience facilitate the discussion. The November gathering will discuss large corporations and small communities.

Schultz and Larson to speak at Kaddatz Gallery
Professors Ray Schultz, theatre, and Jess Larson, studio art, will serve as guests for the Kaddatz Gallery’s Artist’s Lecture Series on Thursday, November 11, 2010, at 5:30 p.m. The gallery is located at 111 West Lincoln in Fergus Falls. Schultz and Larson will speak about Morris’s eco-friendly production of the Shakespearean classic As You Like It. The event allows a public conversation with Schultz, who served as director, and Larson, who designed the costumes, which are now on exhibit at the Kaddatz Gallery. Read more »
Tickets now on sale for Concert Choir’s “A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols”
Get in the holiday spirit with Ratty and Mole. Follow the adventurous duo from beloved classic Wind in the Willows as they discover “A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols.” The Concert Choir, under the direction of Ken Hodgson, presents its 2010 Carol Concert on Friday, December 3, at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, December 4, at 8 p.m., and Sunday, December 5, at 2 p.m. Tickets for the concert and an optional meal may be purchased online, by calling 320-589-6239, or stopping by the Information Desk in the Student Center. Accomplishments
Geology faculty Jim Cotter and Keith Brugger presented at the 2010 Annual Meeting of the Geological Society of America held October 31 through November 3 in Denver. Cotter presented two papers, “The UMM International Programs Course ‘Geomorphology of the Italian Alps:’ An international and Intercultural Experience,” and “The UMM-Universidade Sao Paulo Collaborative R.E.U. Program: Comparative Analysis of Glacial Sediments, Western Minnesota and Parana State, Brazil.” Brugger presented a paper titled “Longitudinal Trends of Late Pleistocene Equilibrium-Line Altitudes Across the Colorado Rocky Mountains: Implications for Climate During the Last Glacial Maximum.” Morris alumni at the meeting included Tammy Rittenour ’96 (faculty at Utah State University), Matt Whitehill ’99 (faculty at Lake Superior College), doctorate students Heidi Anderson ’06 (University of Idaho) and Kurt Refsnider ’04 (University of Colorado), and master of science students Julie Baumeister ’09 (University of Nevada, Las Vegas), Donnie Hicks ’09 (University of Tennessee), and Jacob Leader ’09 (Texas Tech). Eric Baker ’09, Kimberly Yauk ’10, and Angela Lexvold ’11 were also in attendance. Combined, 16 papers were presented by Morris faculty and alumni. Brugger also had dinner with Andy Moses ’01 (master of science, University of Oklahoma), now working with a start-up energy company in Denver, and David Loewi (former director of Computing Services) and Lynn Loewi (former music adjunct).
The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) named Julie Rohling’10, Howard Lake, Diane Blommel ’11, Grey Eagle, and Kali Cordes ’13, Glenwood, to the national NFCA Scholar Athlete list, which recognizes players from across Division III. Rohling, 3.89 GPA elementary education graduate, now teaches in the Redwood Valley School District. Blommel, 3.97 GPA, majors in finance management and sports management. Cordes, 3.97 GPA, majors in psychology and art. Read more »

Writer Laurie Blake wrote an obituary story on John Stuart Ingle, artist and professor emeritus of studio art, for the Star Tribune. Ingle died at the age of 77 on October 30, 2010. Services will be at 1 p.m. on November 27, 2010, at the Minnesota Cremation Society, 7110 France Avenue South, Edina.
