Pioneer Public Television
"Everywhere, Everywhere, Christmas Tonight!" will air on Pioneer Public Television on Christmas Day, December 25, 2011, at 4 p.m. The special rebroadcast will include narration, carols, and choral songs inspired by the season, sung by the Morris Concert and University Choirs, under the direction of Kenneth Hodgson, associate professor of music.

Professor Rothchild awarded Institute for Advanced Studies Fellowship
Jennifer Rothchild, associate professor of sociology and gender, women, and sexuality studies, received a fellowship with the Institute for Advanced Studies (IAS) for the 2012 spring semester. Rothchild's goal for spring semester is to draft her book, Boys in the Kitchen and Girls in the Yard: Social Constructions of Gender and Family in Nepali Orphanages. Read more »

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service, a collaboration among UMM's Office of Equity, Diversity, and Intercultural Programs, the Office of Community Engagement, the Morris Human Rights Commission, and several community organizations, invites everyone from the campus and greater Morris community to participate in volunteer service projects with community partners on Monday, January 16, 2012. Winter Break Campus Closings
The University will be closed on December 23, 26, 27, and January 2. In addition, many administrative offices may be closed December 28, 29, and 30. More specific information on hours and closings may be found online.
December 15 deadline for first-year competitive academic scholarships
Incoming first-year students for fall 2012 are invited to compete for the Prairie Scholars Award and the Morris Scholars Award. To be eligible, students must submit an application for admission with supplemental materials AND a scholarship essay and application by Thursday, December 15, 2011. Read more »
Students interested in entering the Elementary or Secondary Education program
You must complete the Minnesota Teacher Licensure Examinations (MTLE) basic skills subtests before entering the elementary or secondary education programs. The MTLE will be offered at Morris on several dates each month. Contact Pat Nelson, Division of Education, or Jane Kill, Counseling, for information on registering.
Attention elementary education majors planning to graduate in 2014
All application material is to be submitted to Pat Nelson in the Division of Education office no later than Friday, December 16, 2011. Interviews will be February 6 through 10, 2012. Signup sheets will be posted on the Division of Education office door (211) when you return in January.

The Alexandria Echo Press "On the Street" column mentioned that Christopher Huether '04, psychology, became a partner with William Leuthner at Leuthner Law Office in Alexandria effective July 1, 2011.
Troy Goodnough, sustainability coordinator, was listed as a member of Mary Guzowski's team in an article in Archinect, "Architecture Professor Mary Guzowski's Mini Grant Award Aims to Make a Major Difference," on her selection by the University of Minnesota's Institute on the Environment (IonE) for one of 13 awards as part of its mini grant program.
Jill Skwira '06, elementary education, weighed in on the debate over unionizing childcare providers in the story "Union Vote for Child Care Providers Blocked By Judge" on KSAX. /p>
Wind power at Morris was featured as a sidebar in the article "Wind. Energy. Research." by writer Rick Moore for UMNews.
