HFA Gallery Requests Proposals for Outdoor Sculpture
The HFA Gallery is now accepting entries from professional artists for a site-specific outdoor sculpture to be located in the north courtyard of the newly renovated Welcome Center.
Free October Community Meal to Feature Native American Fare
Community and campus volunteers will prepare and serve the Morris Community Meal on Monday, October 22, at 5:30 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church. This month's meal will feature Native American-themed dishes.
New Registration Tool Available for Morris Students and Advisers
A new registration tool called Schedule Builder is now available. The program helps you create customized class schedules before registering and takes into account desired courses, personal preferences, and a target number of credits. Check it out today!
Biometric Health Screenings
Earn 100 points for your Wellness Points Bank when you attend the upcoming Biometric Health Screening on Thursday, November 29, at the RFC South Gym. At this time all of the available the appointments are full, but walk-ins are welcome. Participants should expect to wait 5 to 10 minutes. Other Biometric Health Screening dates are scheduled for April and August 2013. In lieu of Biometric Health Screening data obtained through an on-campus screening, UPlan members can instruct their health care provider to submit screening results using the Health Care Provider Form.

Students Interested in Entering the Elementary or Secondary Education Program
You must complete the Minnesota Teacher Licensure Examinations (MTLE) basic skills test before entering either the elementary or secondary education program. The MTLE will be offered at Morris on several dates each month. Contact Pat Nelson, nelsonpa@morris.umn.edu, or Jane Kill, killjb@morris.umn.edu, for information on registering.
Secondary Education Students Planning to Graduate in 2014
There will be an informational/application meeting on Wednesday, October 31, at 12:00 p.m. in Science 3655. The meeting will provide information on recommendations, interviews, and deadlines for admission to the program. Further information about admission requirements may be found in the University of Minnesota, Morris catalog.
Accomplishments
"Clean Energy in Our Community: University of Minnesota Morris"—the video recently produced by Morris for the Department of Energy— received one of two awards given annually by the Consortium of College and University Media Centers (CCUMC). The video was awarded as the "Best Promotional Video." It was produced by Roger Boleman, Director of Instructional and Media Technologies, and Mike Cihak, Assistant Director of Instructional and Media Technologies, and written by David Ericksen, assistant professor of English. The awards were announced during the CCUMC's annual conference.
Morris Student Works with Willmar to Create an E-Co-Op
Looking for a new way to order and distribute groceries through an online ordering system, the Willmar Community-Owned Grocery partnered with the Center for Small Towns and Zachary Johnson '14, Fergus Falls, to launch the pilot program for its new "e-co-op." The project was funded by the University of Minnesota-Southwest Regional Sustainable Development Partnership—formerly the West Central Partnership—a citizen-driven initiative working to create and sustain healthy ecosystems, strong local economies, and vibrant self-reliant communities.
Four Morris athletes were included in the Week Six Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Player of the Week awards. They include: Brendon Foss '14 (Football Offensive Player of the Week), Ebrima Badgie '14 (Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week), Jacob Borash '15 (Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week), and Kaylie Clark '14 (Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week).

On Wednesday, October 10, several young Organic Valley farmers stopped at the University of Minnesota, Morris to hand out samples of milk and string cheese and talk about organic agriculture. Their visit was documented by the Morris Sun Tribune in an article entitled "Organic Valley farmers visit the University of Minnesota, Morris."
The University of Minnesota, Morris was mentioned in the Finance and Commerce article "What to Do With 10,000 Tons of Animal Bedding?" for its role in the Minnesota Corn Growers Association's study of the potential for ag biomass in Minnesota.
Recent Cougar Hall of Fame inductee Kathy Heuer Mackenthun was featured in an article by Sun Patriot Newspapers.
