Morriscapes Will Benefit PRCA
This holiday season art students will once again be donating their art work for a good cause. Students of Michael Eble, associate professor of studio art, have been busy painting Morriscapes—townscape paintings of Morris that will be sold to the highest bidder at the Prairie Renaissance Cultural Alliance (PRCA). Closed bidding begins during an opening reception on Tuesday, December 6, from 5 until 7 p.m. at the PRCA (630 Atlantic Avenue, Morris MN) and ends on Friday, December 14, at 5:30 p.m.
Research by Students and Faculty Featured on ScienceNOW
Work by Jon Anderson, professor of statistics, Stephen Burks, associate professor of economics and management, Manjari Govada '12, Tricia Steffen '11, Chris Thorne '11, Vasileia Varvarigoue, research fellow at the Harvard School of Public Health, and Stefanos Kales, associate professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School, is currently receiving significant media attention. Their article, "Obesity is associated with the future risk of heavy truck crashes among newly recruited commercial drivers," originally appeared in Accident Analysis & Prevention and was highlighted by ScienceNOW on October 26, 2012. The research came from Morris's long-running Truckers & Turnover Project.
Retirement Reception for Professor Tap Payne
A reception will be held on Saturday, December 1, from 2 until 5 p.m. in the Humanities Fine Arts Black Box Theatre in honor of Tap Payne, professor of theatre arts, and his impending retirement. Students Interested in Entering the Elementary Education or Secondary Education Program
You must complete the Minnesota Teacher Licensure Examinations (MTLE) basic skills subtests before entering either the elementary or secondary education program. The MTLE will be offered at Morris on several dates each month. Contact Pat Nelson, nelsonpa@morris.umn.edu, or Jane Kill, killjb@morris.umn.edu, for information on registering.
Attention Secondary Education Students Planning to Graduate in 2014
All of the application material is due to Pat Nelson in the Division of Education Office no later than Friday, November 30, 2012. When you return in January, remember to sign up for your interview for the secondary education program. Sign-up sheets will be on the Education Division Office (200) door. Interviews will take place Tuesday, January 22, through Friday, January 25, 2013.
Attention Elementary Education Majors Planning to Graduate in 2015

Accomplishments
Ann DuHamel, head of keyboard studies, will be the featured piano soloist in the Central Lakes Symphony Orchestra's Christmas with the Orchestra concert on Sunday, December 2, at 2 p.m. at Saint Mary's Catholic Church (420 Irving Street, Alexandria, MN 56308). The orchestra will perform Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 21 as well as holiday-themed music, including movements from Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker. Additional information is available online.
Linda Keller '13 was named Athlete of the Month by the Minnesota Chapter of the USA Track and Field Association for the month for October. Keller won the Roy Griak Invitational on September 29, 2012, topping all Division III runners with a time of 21:49.
In the news
Stephen Burks, associate professor of economics and management, was featured in a story by Minnesota Public Radio health reporter Lorna Benson on Tuesday, November 20. Burks discussed work he conducted with Jon Anderson, professor of statistics, Manjari Govada '12, Tricia Steffen '11, Chris Thorne '11, and two co-authors from Harvard. Their paper, which came from Morris's long-running Truckers & Turnover Project, recently appeared in the journal Accident Analysis & Prevention.
