Opening reception—Project Art for Nature exhibition promotes awareness and stewardship

The University of Minnesota, Morris is proud to present the Project Art for Nature (PAN) exhibition at the Humanities Fine Arts Gallery from October 22 until November 27, 2009. The opening reception, free and open to the public, will be held on Thursday, October 22 from 7 until 9 p.m. Several of the artists will attend the opening reception and will also meet with senior studio art majors to discuss career paths within arts and share career advice.

The University of Minnesota, Morris will once again host Pride of the Prairie Community Foods Day, an event that aims to connect area farmers, the community, and the campus in a local, sustainable, and delicious way—through food. Read more.

Haug ’79 to provide 2009-10 Latterell Lecture

Ken Haug ’79, associate professor of chemistry at Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania, is the University of Minnesota, Morris 2009-10 Latterell Visiting Alumnus. He will meet with students and faculty throughout the day on Monday, October 26, 2009. His presentation, “A Pathway into Chemistry,” is free and open to the public. A question and answer session and a reception follow.

Peterson Joins Morris Campus Office of Equity, Diversity and Intercultural Programs
Tracy R. Peterson has joined the Morris campus as the associate director in the Multi-Ethnic Student Program in the Equity, Diversity and Intercultural Programs Office. Peterson was most recently with the University of Wisconsin, Madison where he worked in American Indian Academic Services. He has also worked in the Center for Multicultural Affairs at Dickinson State University and in American Indian Program and Campus Life at Cornell University. Peterson's work will focus on cultural programs and outreach, which includes enhancing relationships with tribal communities, student leadership development, and cultural programming.

Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship Deadline
Students interested in a career in mathematics, the natural sciences, or engineering are invited to apply to the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Program. In spring 2010, the foundation will award scholarships to college juniors or seniors during the 2010–2011 academic year. The scholarship award covers eligible expenses up to a maximum of $7,500 per year. Interested sophomores and juniors should contact Nancy Carpenter (carpenne@morris.umn.edu) by October 23, 2009.
