Symphonic Winds Concert

Humanities Fine Arts Recital Hall
The concert includes collaboration with two UMM faculty members-teaching specialist Mike Odello will open the concert as guest conductor on Leonard Bernstein’s Overture to Candide and Symphonic Winds and guitar instructor Dr. James Flegel will perform Manuel Ponce’s Concierto del Sur, a concerto for acoustic guitar and wind ensemble. Morris Academic Partner (MAP) Matthew Torgerson ’11, Clinton, Minn., will conduct the Symphonic Winds in W. Francis McBeth’s Kaddish. Read more »

This evening of jazz will serve as a 2010 Celebration gift from the University of Minnesota, Morris to the surrounding area. The Morris Area High School Jazz Band will open the free concert that also features UMM jazz ensembles and guest artist Laura Caviani, jazz pianist and composer. Jim Thoreen, songster, arts advocate, and Stevens County coordinator, will serve as the Master of Ceremony. Read more »

Boren Scholarship Deadline Wednesday, February 10
Boren Scholarships provide American undergraduate students with the resources and encouragement they need to acquire skills and experiences in areas of the world critical to the future security of our nation, in exchange for their commitment to seek work in the federal government. Thursday Afternoon Faculty Seminar (TAFS)
University of Minnesota, Morris Assistant Professor of Mathematics Byungik Kahng will present the Thursday, February 4, 2010, TAFS, “Invariant Set Theory in Multiple Valued Iterative Dynamics Models of Nonlinear Disturbed Control Dynamical Systems.” In Humanities Fine Arts room 6 at 5 p.m.
Accomplishments
A team of five University of Minnesota, Morris students-Josh Preston ’12, Montevideo, Clara Dux ’11, Stewartville, Will Dolezal ’11, St. Paul, Samantha Bruno ’13, Foley, and Tara Greiman ’11, Dayton-presented research on broadband Internet connectivity for rural America at the statewide Blandin Foundation conference in Duluth in October 2009. Thirty-four Cougar student-athletes have received the fall 2009 Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) academic all-conference award. In all, a record-355 student-athletes from 13 institutions received recognition for an award that has the following academic requirements:
