Our primary mission at the Newman Center is to enhance the spiritual growth and maturity of students at UMM. We provide a broad spectrum of faith development programming, prayer and worship experiences to assist all on their journey of belief, whether Catholic, of other traditions or for those still in the seeking process. Programming/events include:

  • Refueler: Weekly, student prayer service in our chapel featuring contemporary praise and worship music along with reception of Holy Communion.
  • Monthy Newman Student Masses: One Sunday afternoon per month, a special "Student Mass" is held at 5: 00pm at the Newman Center. Students participate via music ministry and as liturgical ministers. A simple meal is provided following Mass to encourage fellowship and interaction.
  • Masses at Assumption Catholic Church: Assumption is just 3 blocks from campus and less than a block from the Newman Center. Weekend Masses are Saturday at 5:30pm and Sunday mornings at 8:30 am and 10:30 am.
  • Special Liturgical Season Celebrations: Advent, Lenten and Easter season, including Ash Wednesday Service, Lenten Ecumenical Services with Lutheran Campus Ministry, and our traditional Ecumenical Holy Week Seder Meal.
  • Morning Prayer: Monday through Friday at the Newman Chapel we pray the Morning Office of the Liturgy of the Hours. A great way to start the day and develop a daily prayer discipline.
  • R. U. M. Prayer Group (Rosary, U and Mary): Held weekly on campus or in our Chapel.
  • Ecumenical Prayer and Praise Gatherings: once a semester we join with all the other campus ministries to worship in solidarity and intercede to God on behalf of the UMM community.
  • Taize (pronounced teh-zay') Prayer Services: This unique prayer and devotional experience is a combined ministry effort with our Lutheran brethren at Christus House. It is a monthly venture hosted at both locations but open to all campus ministries.
  • Making Choices: A weekly study/discussion of the fundamentals of Catholic moral theology and how to live it out as students at a secular university.
  • Eucharistic Adoration: Held weekly throughout the year in the Newman Center Chapel. With our own tabernacle the Blessed Sacrament is always present.
  • Retreats: An assortment of monthly encounters designed to intensify our faith experience. We use traditional retreat formats, mini-retreats, service retreats, on-line resources, regional conferences and various other unique approaches to enhancing the Spirit in our lives.
  • Newman Center Chapel: Our beautiful chapel at the Center is available 24/7 if you need a quiet place to pray or be alone with your thoughts. No need to knock... just walk in.
