Hey All-
Here are the notes from tonight's meeting! First of all, it was an amazing
meeting; y'all full of great ideas and I am so glad that you are part of
CNIA! The agenda and notes follow:
1. Designs
-CNIA needs your designs for our T-shirts and Sweatshirts, buttons, and our Annual Peace Run shirt. Please start doodling and being artistic and send in your designs. You can get FREE stuff for it! If your design is chosen for any of our clothing or buttons, you get a free item. If you are chosen for the t shirts/sweatshirts you get the sweatshirt for FREE!!!
2. Indigenous Day
- Indigenous Day is coming up. It is Monday October, 8th (aka Columbus Day).
CNIA will be selling buttons (with your designs) and AISES will be selling fry bread. We will be tabling on the Thursday and Friday before and the day of.
- A sign up sheet for the 'Anti-Columbus Day Rally/Concert' was sent around.
The concert is in Minneapolis (Fineline Cafe) and will cost 5-10 to get in.
Depending on the amount of people wanting to go we can look into getting a school vehicle and hotel rooms. Contact us if you are interested in going.
- Members brought up the idea of doing something a bit bigger. We would like to contact high schools around the area and send out an invitation to come to UMM and preform. We are looking for drum groups, singers, and dancers.
Kateri Bird is contacting T.Zina and the Souix Voices Club. Thank you Kateri. (Sorry if the names are wrong...)
Jacob C. is contacting Jason Kingbird. Thank You Jacob.
We are looking into reserving one of the rooms in Oyate Hall and asking Admissions to donate the meal. If you have any extra ideas or would like to help please contact us.
3. Language Table
- If any one is interested in having a language table meeting/event or for more information please contact us. A language table is an opportunity for us to discuss native languages and learn more about them.
4. Suicide Prevention Committee
- A sign up sheet for a Suicide Prevention Committee was passed around, if you are interested or have any ideas please contact us. The committee will be taking a more in depth look at the possibility of starting a program at UMM as well as starting the initial steps. Ashly has talked with Bridget Joos about a training program and have started making some contacts.
We have a wonderful opportunity to make something happen with this program, we can involve the whole campus, get sponsors etc. If you want to help or are interested let us know!
- We are also looking into running a Soup and Substance (an already running program discussion about Suicide. Basically it is an open discussion to share and learn about issues while dining on food...usually soup.
5. American Indians in Education Association Conference
- The conference is going to be held at the Shooting Star Casino in
Mahnomen,MN the 10th and 11th of October. We will be staying overnight for at least one night. CNIA/MSP may be able to provide funding. A Chancellor's excuse has been provided in the past, MAYBE able to do again.

6. Homecoming Parade
- CNIA will be having a float this year for the Homecoming parade! It was brought up by a member and accepted by the group. If you would like to help us decorate, toss candy to kids, and have fun with CNIA people let us know, a sign up sheet was passed around.
- In the past we have gotten a truck from a local dealership, we will be doing that this year. I will be contacting business's about donations for Candy and decorations. If you have any ideas please share! That summed up our meeting! I want to say thank you for all of your wonderful ideas and help, you guys are great! Also, thanks to Jacob for providing some delicious bars for the group! See you at the next meeting: SEPTEMBER 25, 2007 at 6:00 pm in the TV LOUNGE in the STUDENT CENTER!
