Fencing Club

University of Minnesota, Morris

The page of people who attack each other with swords!

We are the University of Minnesota Morris Fencing Club, founded in 1992.

Club Objective

A look at the UMM Fencing Club Constitution might explain some of our goals to you.

The primary purpose of the UMM Fencing Club is to bring to you the sport of fencing. (Translation: if you want to fence, come to fencing! We will be happy to teach you how to hold a sword... anytime you want to learn!)

What do we do?

We meet two times a week (at least, we like to meet more often) to fence each other in saber, foil, and epee. Everyone is welcome; wear clothing you can move in and we'll provide the protective gear, the sword, and an opponent or three. Not all at once, of course.

During the year, there are a series of tournaments hosted in various places in Minnesota. Usually one car full of fencers will attend, some to compete and others to watch. (Road trips with fencers can be rather entertaining...) There are different levels of competition, ranging from casual collegiate competition to fencing against National Championship and Olympic quality fencers. (We aren't quite that good, but we go and have a good time anyway.)

How about a little information on the swords themselves?

Where do we meet?

We meet every Tuesday and Thursday from 9-11 p.m. in the Regional Fitness Center (aka RFC).

Over a summer. . .

We hope to get together and attend the Rennaissance Festival in Shakopee and volunteer our time at the University of Minnesota Fencing Club's Fencing Booth. Most likely we'll hear more about Ren Fest in the spring, so stay tuned. If all else fails, we may just get together and do something fun as a group. carpe diem!
