Here is the (hopefully) final information involving our next (and last of
the semester) meeting — going to the play Proof. Tickets have been

her friend, and Stephanie Kernik and her friend. We will meet in front of
the Black Box Theater (in HFA) at 6:50pm to obtain them. Bring three
dollars (per ticket). If anyone else would like to enjoy the show while
sitting with your Math Club friends, meet us at 6:50, ect, but expect to
pay the $4 normal price.

Hello!
This is what will be occurring concerning our next meeting, going to the
play Proof. The Math Club will be going as a group to the THURSDAY (Dec 9)
performance, 7:30 pm, in the HFA Black Box. If you want to get in on the
reduced-price group tickets, respond back to this message and drop off
three dollars (per ticket) in mailbox 1273 (the mailbox of our Co-chair)
before 1pm today (yeah). Meet at 7:00 at the HFA Black Box. We will have
your tickets, or, if something horrible happens, your three dollars to
return.
Hope to see you there!

Greetings and salutations, Math Club Members!

I apologize, I forgot that the amazing device that sends information
regarding math club direct to the brains of its members has not yet been
finished, started, applied for, discussed, or even imagined before a few
minutes ago. Thus, the message for this week is being sent out today.
There will be NO math club meeting today, Monday, November 6. So if you
show up to the normal room, having fun playing with the games, but don't
expect anyone else. Instead, the next meeting will be a trip to see the
play Proof, a Meiningen Student Theatre production. There are shows on
Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 7:30, and a matinee on Saturday at 2:00.
So far, Thursday seems to be the best day to go, but e-mail us back giving
the optimum time attend for you. It will be fun, and if our group has six
or more people, we get a discount!
Have a good day.
I await your eager e-mails. Or not-so-eager. Fine, I'm just awaiting your
e-mails with no adjective to describe them.

This Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 7:30 (and Saturday at 2:00), the
Meiningens Student Theater is putting on Proof, and we were planning for
the Math Club to go as a group. Katie wanted to go on Thursday, but how
does that sound for the rest of you? Let us know if you're interested, and
what day would work best for you. I've heard the play is really good, and
going as a club would be cheaper, so please think about taking a study
break and coming with us to see it.

Greetings again, elite persons of UMM, that is to say, Math Club Members:

It has been nearly two weeks since the last Math Club E-mail, which means
there is another Math Club meeting soon. Very soon. In fact, it's next
Monday, November 8 at 6:30PM in the Math Recreations room (Sci 3555). We
will be watching some archaic math videos, so old they come in reels of
film strips! They are said to be humorous, but be warned — basic math has
not changed a lot in recent history, so you might learn something as well.
Also, take a look at this, the Math Club's new, improved, and updated web
site. It has useful information, such as the time and location of the next
meeting.
  See you all there!

October 23, 2004

Hello again, fine people of UMM who can lay claim to the title "Math Club
Member"

Our next meeting will be on Monday, Oct 25 at 6:30 in the Math Recreations
Room (room 3555 in the Science building). If you have not yet seen the
pattern, we meet every other Monday of the month at 6:30, usually in Sci
3555. Thus, the meeting after this one will be Nov. 8 and so on. Anyway,
we will be doing fun problem solving questions this time. Test out your
logic skills — you might be surprised, hopefully in a good way. Bring a
friend if they are interested.
See you all there!

The Math Club members have been specially invited to the Mathematics
Discipline Seminar this Tuesday. Jerry Heuer, from Concordia College, will
be giving a lecture how to think about (and solve) the question: "What is
the 101000 digit in the sequence of positive integers?" It will take
place in Sci 3610 at 4:00 PM on Tuesday, Oct. 11th. All attendants are
invited to the dinner at Professor Michael O'Reilly's house after the talk
at 6:00 PM. Katie and others will be able to provide rides. It should be
really interesting, and there'll be food, so come check it out.

More about Jerry Heuer:
Professor (Emeritus) Jerry Heuer is a Mathematician in Residence at
Concordia College, Moorhead, MN. He has been running Mathematics Team
Competition for the North Central Section of Mathematical Association of
America since 1997. He served as the Director of USA Mathematical Olympiad

Hello, glorious members of Math Club!
Our next meeting will be on Monday, Oct 4 at 6:30 in the Math Recreations
Room (room 3555 in the Science building). We will be holding a game night
— come and play chess (Western or Chinese), Go, all sorts of games. Most
of all, come. You'll find something fun. Also at this meeting, we will
discuss what we want to do in future meetings, so if you want a say in
that, be sure to show up! All are welcome.
See you all there!

Hey all you math club members!

This Monday, Sept. 20, the math club will be watching the four-time Academy
Award-winning movie A Beautiful Mind. We will be meeting in Science 3610
at 6:30, so bring yourself, a friend, a snack, or anything else you want,
and relax and enjoy the movie with the rest of the club. Hope to see you
there!

Greetings, old and new math club members!

Welcome to a new and hopefully fun year of Math Club. Our first meeting
will be held on Wednesday, September 8th (in other words, this Wednesday).
But it will be better then just a dry discussion — it's a potluck! We will
feed you not small snacks, but a meal complete with grilled
hamburgers/veggie burgers and drinks. Meet behind the Math and Science
building at 4:45. The Math Club will travel from there to Professor
O'Reilly's house, an excellent place to hold a potluck. If you have a car,
bring it with, so everyone can be transported there in a timely fashion.
Directions will be provided. At this meeting, we will talk about future
meeting times and what we want to do this year, as well as eat good food.

So, if you want to have some input in the meeting times, eat, and meet the
other math club members, come to the meeting! And, of course, if you have
food of your own you would like to bring and share, feel free to do so. It
is a potluck, after all. The more food you bring, the more food we have.

Hope to see you all there: Wednesday, September 8 at 4:45pm behind the Math
and Science building.

~The Math Club officers
