Hello Phys1101 students -
tomorrow afternoon we have the UMM undergraduate research symposium on campus. This is an opportunity for UMM students to present their scholarly work.
You can view the schedule and information at http://www.morris.umn.edu/urs/
Please take the time to attend the poster session or some of the talks, and learn how your fellow students got involved in research, see examples of research across all disciplines, find subjects that may tickle your interest.

Here is the deal:
1. Find a  URS project in science or mathematics that interests you -poster or talk.
2. Get information on the project from the presenter on
        - how long and with whom the person has worked on this
        - why this particular research project has been undertaken
        - what particular activity of the presenter this research has involved
        - which skills the presenter needed to do this particular research
        - which skills/knowledge the presenter has acquired through the research
        - in which way the involvement in this research project has helped the presenter to grow as a           scientist/mathematician
3. Summarize your findings in a 1 to 2 -page paper. Include why YOU chose to report on this subject.
4. Turn it in to me by Monday, and earn up to 20 points toward the class work.

Also:
This is a plea for help. Today around 6:15 pm, the poster session needs to be set up in the science atrium.
We do need a few helpers for this. The work involves transporting 7 poster stands from the basement of the science auditorium to the science atrium, and setting those up. This could go fairly fast with 4-6 people (40 minutes?). If you have time, and are willing to help us out with this or know someone who could help, please let me know - we 'd really appreciate this, even in form of culinary sustenance, such as pizza. Please let me know.
Thanks ,
Sylke Boyd and Mark Logan
